is that Jacobs Ladder?
Maybe it isnt , anyway a kid in my sixth grade class made one of those just about 8-10 times the size, hooked it into about 5 or 6 outlets, and man that thing was bright, massive arcing of electricity, he did it for fun, and completely homemade.

I've actually gotten shocked by it while adjusting the spark gap with a screw driver. Imagine someone stabbing your finger with a needle, going through it, then pulling it out quickly. Yeah, it kinda felt like that, but the pain went away within 5 minutes..

I got shocked once by a lamp. The bulb wasn't in all the way and I was stupid and decided to tighten it while it was on. Shock ran threw me and I felt so bad. My mom asked me if I was sick like 10 minutes later because it felt so weird.

And this happened in India where they have 220V electricity!
