Default Woman Tasered at BestBuy

In the video, 35-year-old Elizabeth Beeland is visible as she allegedly causes a commotion at the entrance to the store after being confronted about the use of a suspect credit card that was actually her's. The video shows her waving her arms and appearing upset.

As Beeland turns away, Officer Claudia Wright confronts her and then deploys her taser, striking Beeland in the abdomen.

This will of course spark more controversy, even though it was probably necessary.

I actually saw someone get tazered at the crossgate mall in albany when i was still a student up there. I dont think the security guards plan to use it unless its necessary, but you know the ACLU'll be all over this case

(thanks blake!)

meanwhile the charge on the taser zapped any card on her person with the scan strip such as credit cards....
Now it really won't work!

Cops these days are f$##d. Many of them seem to think that because it's nonlethal they can go around tasering anyone they want. This is the kind of nonsense exemplifies why people (myself included) don't trust cops. Serve and protect my a$$...

You know what? If I'm all pissed off and yelling and screaming, the second a cop approaches and tells me to chill out, I chill the hell out. This woman wanted to keep running her mouth and being all emotionally expressive even after the cop told her repeatedly to calm down. Regardless of if you trust the police or not, and by and large, I have no reason not to in 99% of real world situations, if a cop approaches you and tells you to calm down and speak rationally, you're a dumbass if you don't heed that directive.

Being confronted on suspicions of using a CC that isn't yours, when actually, the card IS yours, is certainly frustrating and anger inducing, even more so during this time of year. But keep your damned head about you for crying out loud. She got what she deserved and the Chiief of Police made an excellent comment.

Had the whole thing of turned into a physical confrontation, there would have been people bitching the taser wasn't used sooner to prevent it. It's very obvious the woman in that video wasn't going to calm down.

The question the cops ask, do I tackle the lady and get her in handcuffs and run the risk of hurting her and being sued, or use a taser to incapacitate her and then get the handcuff and the effect wear off after a few minutes....
I would say the taser

Thanks for that Screwballl. And that's exactly the point.

Taser's hurt like hell, but it's over as soon as its done. Recovery is very quick. With the other force options it takes a lot longer. OC takes at least a half hour to clear up, and affects everyone around when it is used. Going physcially hands on with someone has to potential to hurt for a LONG time afterwards too.

The reason Drew doesn't trust cops is that he hasn't taken the time to understand situations like this. Maybe he should try.
