I don't see what's wrong if he's trying to establish peace.

I mean, we met with Joseph Stalin who has ordered the deaths of over 9 million of his own people (that we know about), and people didn't criticize Roosevelt or Truman for doing so.

You may want to look at this link. The scale of the Vietnam war was tremendously escalated by JFK. A lot of folks, usually dem's, like to say that Eisenhower started the Vietnam war, but he certainly didn't. No more than any other president has started a war in sending combat advisor's to different countries. JFK was the one who decided to turn an advisory role into an all out combat effort in Vietnam.

Meeting with Stalin, the head of a Global Power/huge ass country is a hell of a lot different from meeting with some common criminals and street thugs. The difference is like either talk to Ted Turner, or talking to one of Ted Turner's garbage boys with a nasty crack habit on the side. Who would you want to talk to?

Sorry buddy, please reread some history. Eisenhower was president 1953-61. The Hanoi Politburo did not make the decision to go to war in the South until 1959 and Vietnam did not even escalate with large US presence until January 31, 1965. JFK increased the number of "peace keeping troops there some but LB Johnson ordered the invasion.

Based on when the wars officially started or the US got involved:

Also remember with each of these presidents:

Article One, Section Eight of the Constitution says "Congress shall have power to ... declare War;".
The President has no power to declare war himself nor initiate a large scale movement of American troops without the approval of Congress.
