Default While you were asleep

Seems Microsoft is at it again. This time they've managed to do an update on everyone's computers, even those of us who have automatic updates turned off. What will they do next???

Makes sense now....I have update with notification first....and excepting the updates I got after a recent clean install, most updates I've gotten in the last couple of weeks were automatic, during most of them I was sitting in front of my rig. (the stupid balloon popped up for a few seconds when they were done)

This really pisses me off. If the user has updates disabled, MS should NOT be able to force an update and I don't give a crap if it IS so the updater will work correctly.

All this demonstrates is that MS could force nefarious crap onto our computers without us knowing.

The moment a company starts thinking they can do things to MY friggin property without my consent because it's "good for me" is the day I start paying very close attention to them. This kind of crap will turn trusting people to alternate OS's in a heart beat.

I have enough government entities telling me what's good for me. I'll be damned if a computer software company is going to get in on that. I've never been a proponent of conspiracy theories, but this irritates the hell out of me and does make me question MS's motives.

I saw this happening both at home and at work.

The process had our work system limping until yesterday - it could not shutdown - and then suddenly, all was fine.

AT home, I would find out my system had rebooted overnight.

Both Vista machines so I figured I had missed a configuration someplace. I was casually looking for what I missed. It never occurred to me that MS was the actual culprit.

What makes you think its your property? Didn't you read the EULA? You're just buying temporary access to Windows OS. They can terminate it at any time for any reason.

Hence the reason why I'm going to be running Ubuntu as default boot, and only switching into M$ to play games.

The hard drive is my property - and depositing files on it is at my option, not MS's.

It actually put the security of the entire NT line into question. If the system Admin doesn't have full control of the system - then there is no security.
