| So, this is a rant, so if you want to suggest, then knock yourself out, otherwise, don't bother. OK, so. I'm 16 (5 months until 17). I don't have a license, thus no car. It's summer break. Guess what I do? I sit at home every day, sitting in front of this computer for hours in a day. I do nothing at all and sit at home, bored all day. So, what the hell should I do? I hate that I can't leave the freakin' house, because I never have a ride to go anywhere (I'm the oldest of my friend circle, so no one else has cars). My brother is no help because all he does is go out and make it worse for me. My dad straight up told me that I'm not getting a car because I'm going to go out and party and drop my grades like my brother. To be fair, I get straight A's without trying in school. High school is a complete joke and I'd rather graduate early than spend two more years in high school, but it's just not practical. My brother on the other hand, had B's and C's, got a car, and dropped his grades to C's and D's. So yes, my brother's a complete failure at school, but wow, he gets the car (and still gets to keep it) and I get jack shit because he got bad grades and I got good grades? I can't get a job because I don't have a car to get a job. I have a place nearby, but I can't work there because my brother is working there (rules, two family members can't work in same place). So there's another screw over by my brother. All other work is about 3 miles out. I just applied to Circuit City and Best Buy today just to see what will happen. If I get the job, I'm sure my mom will drive me (she's trying to make this fair for me and help me get a car too... but barely). So, overall, I have no life, I sit in front of this damn computer all day, hating my life. I have no way out. What the hell should I do? Any advice on this? Just heads up, it's not like I'm committing suicide or anything. I'm not that dissatisfied with my life. ![]() Told you it was a useless rant. ![]() - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64 |

| Yea, bicycle... Life's not fair so welcome to the club. Good luck with a job at CC or BB... I know they dont like to hire anyone under 18 at those places but thats in California. Let's see... If I had a chance to be 16 again and had this much free time, I would learn a new skill during the summer. Learn to play an instrument, learn another language, or if you really want to work... go and find people with broken computers to fix. |

| Hey wtcnbrwndo4u, I live in NY, 17, and theres a ton of jobs for teens here.. Fast, cheap transportation. Wanna switch lives? I wouldn't mind moving to KS if it means sitting at home at my computer. I would kill for that! Its my dream to freelance and not be bothered by anyone =D Continuing with something TTPete said... You don't really have to have a car or transportation to have a job. Simply put up a ton of posters/flyers around wherever you live and on craiglist about something like "wtcnbrwndo4u's PC Repair Service" People can come to you with their computers or questions. They can drop of the computers with you, sign a letter/contract thingy saying that their computer is safe with you and you won't sell it on ebay and your not responsible for any future damage (VERY important :P). Then quote them, fix the problem and get the $$. Do you have any other skills? You can make a profit from just about any skill... Its not a totally useless rant. Its good to release your thoughts and feelings once in a while. Or else youl end up a groumpy old man living by himself in a tiny 5 x 5' basement eating cheese doodles while playing WoW =P Are your parents against you sitting at home? Or do they not care? If you can't get a car, did you try asking for a motorcycle or a moped? xD Do you at least have a learning permit? Is your dad totally against having you learn how to drive while your in HS still? Your a junior next year? If you don't have one, maybe ask your dad if you can at least get a learning permit and drive your parents around :P Then when your out of high school you would have a car. I know a guy in KS and as I understand, its fairly impossible to live in KS without a car. Cheers, -robodude666 |

| Lots of good suggestions here. And I agree, get a bicycle. Not only does it help get you in shape and improve your health, its freakin' free transportation to boot. Damn, quit feeling sorry for yourself, and get some initiative. There's always a workaround, always options, there are no impossibilities other than what you mentally limit yourself to doing. I'm not trying to put you down or attack you, just trying to get you to realize that no matter how bad things may appear, there's always options to make things better. Good luck! |

But just like you said. It's virtually impossible to live in KS without a car. Everything is so far away. There's no form of public transportation, otherwise I wouldn't be complaining (I'd take the bus or subway to work anyday... saves gas). We could use public transportation here, but everything is way to far apart. It'd take forever to get anywhere. As for the bicycle... all my friends live about 6-8 miles from me. In a different city. :). My good friends at least.... the ones I want to hang out with. Meh, I'm picky. ![]() Garet, I know you're not putting me down. I'm down for constructive criticism here, even if it means yellin' at me. . But like I said, since all my friends are on the otherside of town, a bike isn't at all worth it. I think I'll take my bike around on Thursday and see what's all around (I have class on Wednesdays for like 6 hours). Ironically, my other skill is working with cars. I'm good at it. I just don't have a car to work on. Or a way to put that skill to use. Maybe JiffyLube. - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64

Anyways.. Ha! That is ironic :( There aren't any local car shops? (Within a bikeable distance?) I am sure you can bike 6-8 miles... You will also get strong legs :P

| resident headbanger | get a skate board, or a go cart, or make your parents take you. You need to get a job to show your parents that you can handle responsibility and offer to pay some of the car with your earnings. Dont bitch about it find a solution. -1 I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review |

| I'm Diggin it! | Here's what I would do. I would look my old man in the eye and say, "Since big bro screwed up his life, you think that with my good grades and my intelligence that I'll follow in his foot steps? Thanks for believing in me pop. I wonder if your dad believed in you at all now."
