| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | You dirty bastard! I gave myself the same idea and was going to start the same thread. :P What's that saying about great minds.... ;) Currently Subscribe MaximumPC - best PC mag out there, bar none. PCEMag (PC Enthusiast) - decent supplement. CPU Mag - it's 'okay' IMO, just has kind of an infomercial feel at times Processor - weekly newspaper format. I don't really read it, but it was free and you can never be too prepared for a toilet paper shortage. Subscribe Off And On PCGamer - MaxPC's sister mag devoted to, you guessed it, gaming. I used to read this mag way back when it was called PC Entertainment and EGA graphics were all the rage. Computer Gaming World - I pick up a sub now and then. Game Informer - comes included with a Gamestop discount card. Helpful Tip Whenever possible, I get my subs through BestDealMagazines. Depending on the mag, the prices are just awesome. For example, I can get a non-CD sub to both MaximumPC and PCGamer for $4.69 each, minus 15% by using coupon code TECHBAR15. I found this gem through TechBargains and have been using them ever since. Just be sure and set up an alternate email addy, as these prices are courtesy of advertisers. You open yourself up to snail mail as well, though I haven't noticed an increased in junk in the couple of years I've been going through them. |

| Every few months i might buy a Computer Power User magazine. Its really good and has few ads. I used to read MaxPC, but i find that they just repeat articles sometimes. Same ol... got bored. So many ads too. I also read, HUB, its a local magazine and it comes out every month. Its also free, probably similar to Processor. ![]() I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220 |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | I read MaxPC. I think its a good mag with good intentions. I think a lot of people don't realize how hard it is to stay on top of things with a once a month periodical. I hate their ads....way too many, and sometimes their articles make me scratch my head....like this months overclocking debacle......but overall a good rag INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU |

| The overclocking artical was good it was intended for a first time clocker and they did leave some things out. But aleast they did an artical on it. |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | Ads - I know this is a common complaint on their forums, but personally I'll take the tradeoff. A non-CD subscription comes to $12 annual, or under $5 if going through the above mentioned BestDealsMagazines. The content to ads ratio doesn't really change, so if there are more ads in a particular month, then there is also more editorial content. Like anyone, I could do without them altogether, but for a buck an issue (or less) and no content being sacrificed, I'll deal with it. Overclocking Article - Double edged sword. On one hand, I was very pleased to see them address this niche crowd. Publications have a tendency not to cater to enthusiasts and instead address the mainstream. The school of thought is that there are not enough of us enthusiasts to keep such a company in business (Boot suffered this fate). Overclocking is one of the more fun aspects of PCs, so I'm pleased anytime MaxPC sees fit to do a write up on the subject. That being said, the title was a bit overzealous IMO. Calling it the "Ultimate Overclocking Guide" does not give the content a chance to live up to the expectations. You're right Cap'N - this was more of an introductory guide that covered the foundations, and I think even that should include a tidbit keeping the HT link at/around 1000MHz (2000MHz effective). I can understand the need for a lofty title in a cover story, but I still would have gone with a title such as "Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Overclocking" or something to that effect. What would really be neat is they put out special issues that didn't have to pull any punches. Release an Ultimate Overclocking Guide on the side and go all out. The downside is that special issues are not included in subscription prices, but the upside is a chance to really address that part of the readership and to show off the skills of the staff. |

| They always prijnt articles about spam. I consider the million subscription cards they stick in their magazines, spam. If I subscribe to a mag (I do, PC Mag and PC world) I shouldn't get inundated with paper cards flying everywhere. I'm ok with the ads but I really hate those that mimic real articles. Those 20 page ads don't entice me to do anything except turn the page.
