| It may surprise you that 4 of the Presidential Candidates voted against English being the Official language of America. 35 Senators Voted Against English as America 's Official Language 25 May, 2007 On Wed, 6 Jun 2007 23:35:23 -0500, "Colonel Harry Riley USA ret" wrote: Senators, Your vote against an amendment to the Immigration Bill 1348, to make English America's official language is astounding. On D-Day no less when we honor those that sacrificed in order to secure the bedrock character and principles of America. I can only surmise your vote reflects a loyalty to illegal aliens. I don't much care where you come from, what your religion is, whether you're black, white or some other color, male or female, democrat, republican or independent, but I do care when you're a United States Senator, representing citizens of America and vote against English as the official language of the United States. Your vote reflects betrayal, political surrender, violates your pledge of allegiance, dishonors historical principle, rejects patriotism, borders on traitorous action and, in my opinion, makes you unfit to serve as a United States Senator... impeachment, recall, or other appropriate action is warranted. Worse yet, 4 of you voting against English as America 's official language are Presidential candidates: Senator Biden, Senator Clinton, Senator Dodd, and Senator Obama. Those 4 Senators vying to lead America but won't or don't have the courage to cast a vote in favor of English as America's official language when 91% of American citizens want English officially designated as our language. This is the second time in the last several months this list of Senators have disgraced themselves as political hacks... unworthy as Senators and certainly unqualifed to serve as President of the United States. If America is as angry as I am, you will realize a back-lash so stunning it will literally rock you out of your panties... and preferably, totally out of the United States Senate. The entire immigration bill is a farce... your action only confirms this really isn't about America ; it's about self-serving politics... despicable at best. Never argue with an idiot; they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." ~ anonymous The following senators voted against making English the official language of America : Akaka (D-HI) Bayh (D-IN) Biden (D-DE) Wants to be President? I swear she's a total hack. She came to my highschool to make some speech, and she honestly sounds as moronic as she does on TV. I think we started chanting we want bill towards the end lol Kennedy (D-MA) what would you expect from this drunken sot? i wish he would die, no seriously has he had any impact on our country besides sounding like a total moron? | ||||||||||||||

| Were there any other riders that were on this bill? If there was a republican rider that the Rep.s were trying to push through they may have attached it on this bill and thus is why you see all of the Dem.s voting against it. Dont get me wrong I am not a fan of most of the people on the list but I would like some clarification. -1 I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review | ||||||||||||||

| Is there a resolution number or something else to identify the bill so we can check ourselves? No offense, but I don't think of Snopes as an official source. Let it be said, however, that it is no surprise to find some of these names on this list. I've got to agree with Zambini and Azianai (though I'd be OK with Kennedy just retiring - he doesn't have to die!). | ||||||||||||||

| Little research: Salazar Amendment #1384 was passed 6/6/07 (U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records Home > Votes > Roll Call Vote) 58 to 39 with 2 abstentions. Amendment #1384 is an amendment to Amendment #1150, which was the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (which itself was an amendment to #1348). Not sure I'm reading all of this correctly, but it appears Harry Reid introducted Resolution 1348, which was later amended by Amendment 1150 and then by Amendment 1384. It appear to me that Amendment 1384, which is solely about declaring English the official language of the US, was approved. Maybe someone more familiar with Government-speak and the process by which bills are introduced, amended, and voted on could comment here. I don't want to get off on a rant here (thanks Dennis Miller), but I don't see why anyone would vote against declaring English the official language. I could see where this vote might come back to haunt the candidates, although they might be able to "explain" (think "spin") it away. Seems like we're headed for a showdown, with the traditional American values (melting pot, English language, etc.) being continually assaulted by lefties who want every single group catered to so as to avoid offending them. | ||||||||||||||

| I got it from a good source and passed it on. The issue is not that it passed ... nor any particular reason motivating reason or spin as to why they voted against it ... I see the issue is the fact they did vote against a core AMERICAN value.
