Been there.....its a real pain in the butt. Unless you have Blue Ray or HD DVD, then you'll be fine with S-Video for a DVD player. Standard DVD players work at 480i, which is S-Video or Composite......some people use component, but you won't see any difference.

Well crap ... I forgot that it is only 480i standard.

So I could have left the s-video hooked up versus the component and maybe had just a tad better signal ...

I have a boatload of $70-$300 cables ... and my component set was only a $50 set versus the $70 S-Video set.

Likely very little difference ... and the main issue for me was the audio setup being digital ... so unless the Video is significantly different in quality from a Top End S-Video Cable ... to a mid/low grade component video cable setup .... I'm good.

If it was a PC ... I would have to do it perfectly ... but it isn't ... so I can ease off of perfection some.

Thats funny.....S-Video is a step below component video on the scale.....so if you have better quality with S-Video, there is something wrong with your setup.

I think you meant to say there is a noticeable difference between S-Video and Composite, and there is.......but outside of HDMI (the soon to be standard) component video is the best

Gee thanks screwballl .... hehe ... now your messing with me ... and I'm thinking about moving my 61" big screen out and re-wiring ...

Although I am pretty blessed ... I did my homework and bought 2 ea of a 500 Watt sound system that has everything onboard ... including a DVD player that can play MP3 sound disks and PC made DVR DVRW DVDRW ...

Great deal and cannot be had new anymore ... even used ones are more than I paid for new.

Only isssue is that dubbed and compacted DVD movies occasionally hickup on it ... I think it is because its processing is older tech ... the new 5 disk [anydisk] player plays everything without the hickups.

I'm pretty sure the two I have also allow me to combine them on the same signals to make a 10.2 1000 watt sound system ...

However my 15" Sub already knocks stuff down and scares the crap outa ya during movies ... so I would have to have 3 times the size of Living room and a serious need to make it 10.2 ... combining two house systems together.

Now I'm gone be thinking if my video isn't clear ....

So ... Capper ... I would surmise that a Mid range Component Video is still going to be superior than a top end S-Video signal?

I hope so ... just say it is so ...

You can pick up DVDs that will walk you through setting up and optimizing your video and audio, I had one, but gave it to Captain Crunch. You might ask him which DVD I gave him, I can remember right now.

Yes, and don't be fooled by companies like Monster selling their $200 cables....I've actually seen little difference between their high end cables and the generic ones that come with your hardware.

I used to stress out on this stuff, like you are, but after all kinds of research and playing with my 57" and 73" TVs, I came to the realization that in the end, a lot of those high end connectors are worthless.
