Default video of run-down barracks sparks military...

Dad's video of run-down barracks sparks military response

(CNN) -- The U.S. military is promising action to address conditions in a barracks at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, after a soldier's father posted images on YouTube showing a building that he said "should be condemned."

"This is embarrassing. It's disgusting. It makes me mad as hell," Ed Frawley said of the building where his son, Sgt. Jeff Frawley, had to live upon his return this month from a 15-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Frawley said Monday that Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Dick Cody called him to say he shares Frawley's anger and that "there's no excuse." Cody said he would not want his own sons or any troops to return to such conditions, Frawley said.

Frawley's 10-minute video shows still photos from throughout the building, which appears to be falling apart and filled with mold and rust.

Paint -- which Frawley said is lead-based -- is chipping. Ceiling tiles are missing. A broken drain pipe allows sewer gas into the building, while another one has tissues stuffed into it in an apparent effort to stop the gas from coming in.

Photos from the communal bathroom show some of the most disgusting images. In one, a soldier stands in a sink to avoid what Frawley describes as 3 inches of sewage water that filled the floor when toilets overflowed. Watch the run-down conditions that soldiers have been living in »

At times, "sewage water backs up into the sinks in the lower floors of these barracks," Frawley said in his narration. "The soldiers have to tell one another who's taking a shower when they turn the sinks on, or the person taking the shower gets scalded with hot water."

its sad... I saw some of the ones locally on Eglin and Hurlburt Field and they have been making progress towards repairs or completely replacing them.
these were nowhere near the nasty conditions mentioned in this story

oh lord. That pool of piss is terrible.

The barracks were like that when I was there in the early 90's...it aint just piss.
Back then, you were lucky if 2 of the 4 crappers worked at any one time, half the sinks didn't function.....and we stayed in the barracks while they were sucking all the asbestos out of the building...which couldn't have been a good thing.

the barracks i live in (ft bragg) is a complete piece of crap. when we first came back, the bathtub flooded. it was about 4 inches from overflowing with nasty murky, sweage smelling water. took 6 weeks (of sending in work orders every day) to get someone to come out and fix it. now i dont have any electricity in my bathroom. i have to leave the door open so i can see what im doing in there.

Yeah, after living in the conditions we have to live in overseas in a combat area, this is the last friggin thing Soldiers should be coming home to!!

Man, that pisses me off seeing that. Got all kinds of money to waste on pork barrel shit, but can't get this nation's hero's living in a decent barracks. Simply ridiculous.
