Vacation over for me...

Well, it's back off to the salt mines for me. I haven't worked since the middle of June, and I spent a lot of the interim moving and setting up shop here in NM, and actually had some time to just hang out until I got some work lined up. Well, now I've got the job part taken care of, and I start tomorrow (8/14).

I somehow managed to get into the Pepsi Bottling Group, and I'll be driving a delivery truck and pulling down $18/hr, which is very good here. :pepsi: The work is local, M-F in the day , which is just what I wanted! This opportunity is going to make for a real good life here, and we'll even have a shot a buying a house, which is not something you can do in California.

Buying a house is definitely the way to go. It will cost you just as much to buy and it does to rent most of the time. Sometimes it's even cheaper.

Very true. Often times rent payments to the building company or mortgage payments to the house company cost more monthly than payments back to your bank from a loan. It's just like buying a car - chances are it would be more worth while to get a loan for the full amount from your bank, and pay THEM with THEIR interest rather than the dealership.

At the moment, the rent we're paying for our apartment is easily what a mortgage would be anyway, and maybe - depending on what we get - more than a mortgage payment might be. The area we moved to has a lot of good deals to offer, and if we want to, we can even buy a custom home with not a lot more hassle than what's involved in buying a hoiuse as it is, with the exception of waiting for it to be built. In any case, we'll be doing a lot better here than in Cali.
