Default Using Visine a lot?

Are there ill-effects for using Visine a lot? (under the max dosage of course)?

Like, will my eyes stop producing their own tears and become dependent on Visine?

I've had dry eyes these past couple days and I like the feel of Visine'd eyes, but if its bad for me I wont use it so much

its only supposed to be temporary usage... I have known some people that have become visine and afrin addicts... their body stops working properly since they've been using that stuff so long.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Yeah Visine is a teporary fix, if your eyes have been dry for that long I would have it checked out. Last time I put up with dry red eyes for 2 days and come to find out it was pink eye. Doc was suprised I put up with it for so long.

its nothing big. Most likely allergies. Claritin clear my ass.

But yea, I figured that it would have some sort of badness. I only have used 4 drops in the couple weeks its been in my drawer.

Visine doesn't fix red eyes...it hides them by restricting the blood vessels on the eye. [quote="Wiki"]Adverse effects

  • Those using Visine Original frequently report stinging and burning upon application.[1]
  • Use can cause a rebound effect causing the redness to worsen. Prolonged use can cause blood vessels to be dilated for an extended period of time. Use should be limited.[verification needed]
  • A red eye may often be indicative of more serious underlying ocular condition, simply reducing blood flow to the area will not solve the condition and may even exacerbate symptoms
To sooth dry eyes, get that stuff for contacts. Unless you're alergic to pork (uses pork protein in it), that's probably better.

agreed, the stuff for contacts is usually a saline solution (salt water) that is much better for your eyes because it is closer to mimicking your real tears.. and even with this, it is better to only use it on occasion... if the dry eyes continue for more then 2-3 days then it is time to go see a Doctor

If you have dry eyes you should be using artificial tears. There are many brands out there, after my eye surgery I was prescribed Refresh Artificial Tears. They work pretty good, I still use them even 2 years after my surgery, when my eyes are dry. Hell they gave me a life time supply of them. The only downside to them is when the drops dry they leave a sticky residue on your eye lashes. Just a quick rinse of water and it comes right off, but it's still annoying.

Oh, well my eyes are better now. I figure using Visine ~3 times this month (only time I've used it) won't be bad for me. :P
