Tough Duck Stays Alive for 2 Days in Refrigerator After Being Shot

Wildlife officials said the feathered Lazarus had been shot by a hunter and put into his refrigerator for two days. That's when the hunter's wife opened the door and the duck lifted his head, giving her a scare.

The man's wife "was going to check on the refrigerator because it hadn't been working right and when she opened the door, it looked up at her," said Laina Whipple, a receptionist at Killearn Animal Hospital. "She freaked out and told the daughter to take it to the hospital right then and there."

The hospital's staff had the daughter take the 1-pound female ring-neck to Goose Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, where it has been treated since Tuesday for wounds to its wing and leg.

Sanctuary veterinarian David Hale said it has about a 75 percent chance of survival, but probably will not ever be well enough to be released back into the wild.

He said the duck, which has a low metabolism, could have survived in a big enough refrigerator, especially if the door was opened and closed several times.

Does this story just not add up for anyone else here? I read it, thought it was funny.....then thought "What kind of hunter shoots an animal, and then sticks it in a fridge unlceaned for two days?", it wasn't plucked or anything? I'm screaming BS on this one

Yep, as I was reading the story, I had that same thought.....Who the hell shoots something and sticks it into the fridge without cleaning it

I field strip ducks. Leave all the entrails and the head right where I pick it up at. If that sucker would have lifted it's head in my frig, I'd be looking for Jesus right behind me.

Several things made that story lose credibility:
1) The fact that he didn't notice the live bird in his hands as he was carrying it

2) The fact that he didn't open his refrigerator and find a living duck in there for 2 days


3) The fact that he didn't wrap it in something or put it in a tupperware

Sorry, but Fox News is the most credible news org in this country....I may not like O'Reilly or some of the other personalities.....but at least they report the news and let you make up your own mind......Funny how when you talk news...people forget things like the NYT making up stories, or MSNBC forging documents and manipulating news for the sake of a good story (The exploding trucks?)
