Default A thoroughly bad Saturday

Well today (Saturday May 17th) has been very eventful.
To start, the Windstar van tranny decides it doesn't want to shift out of first gear. Reverse, park, etc. work but it won't leave first gear when you're driving down the road.
Okay, I can handle that it's probably the speed sensor. You can only get at it from the bottom of the van after you take off part of the exhaust system and a heat shield.
Next, I get the AC window unit for the house installed and running. The temps have been high over here and the house got 'toasty'. The unit had been running for about an hour when I started to smell something. That smell turned into a burning plastic smell. Got around to checking the fuse box and found a fuse that was damn hot to the touch. (Yes, I have a fuse box. The house is old and I was planning on upgrading the wiring next year. Next year has come early.)
Can you say smoking wiring in the wall? Nothing caught on fire but if I'd been gone grocery shopping...............
Anybody got about $10k they can give me to wire a house?
Okay, eventful day right? I'm not done.
I have a nephew that is living with me temporarily. There is a big room that used to be a garage. The previous home owner made it into a play/game room. I've used it for storage but cleaned out quite a bit of junk so he could have some place that would give him privacy. Well, someone broke in and stole a bunch of his stuff and some of mine.
Not done yet.
Another friend of mine got word from her sister that their father has cancer and has about 6 months left.
I am starting to not like Saturdays. I'd go get drunk but this crap will still be here and I'd have to deal with it with a hangover.
I'm not a happy camper right now.

Yeah i dropped my car off for inspection, and i get the usual "Brake pads are worn out" BS. Wouldn't you know it, toyota doesn't let the market make aftermarket brakes pads for my car, so i gotta shell out the $$ for OEM ones -_-;;
Bad SAT indeed

(thanks blake!)

That pretty much defines what a real bad day is. Let's hope things get better.

I love dropping a vehicle off to find that something ese is wrong... my last brake job cost me almost $400... not because of the brakes but because an axle seal was blown so they needed to replace it...
I always have them show me the problem because I know enough about cars to tell if they are bulls**tting me. I have caught a few in the past trying to pad their sales numbers but all the recent visits were legitimate fixes.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Damn man that sucks . But for even worse news when a tranny only goes in first and reverse its a bad sigh you might be in for a trans rebuild , because first and reverse are on the same gear set . speed sensor has nothing with to do with it not shifting , ford has always had problems with there transmissions from the late 80' and up .

with Fords its always transmission or fuel injection problems
with GM/Chevys its always front brakes, alternator and power steering pump
with Chrysler/Dodges it is buggy sensors and on older ones it was the carb/TBI
with Hondas it is body work and under carriage stuff (suspension, tie rod ends, grease fittings)
with Nissans it is electrical related stuff and brakes
with Kias and Hyundais it is everything
with Toyotas it is electrical and suspension

all vehicles have certain degree of stuff breaking, just certain manufacturers always have specific problems. With my personal experience, I have always had the least amount of problems with GM and Chrysler products.

Well my day just got better sunday. Our basement is flooding, don't know if its the waterboiler thats leaking, or the chimney thats leaking. Or it could be one of the pipes down there. Either way, shut off all water and i've been using the Green Machine (think thats what its called) the carpet cleaner thingy to suck up all the water in the basement. Thank god its tile, been doing that for the past 3 hours so far. Guess work is off for tomorrow, hopefully a plumber can come and look at whats wrong and fix it. Our house has gone mid-evil, with pots of water for brushing teeth, and a tub full of water to flush the toilet @_@/
