Default thermaltake eSATA FIREEE!!

Well not really fire but tons of smoke...
I got my 500GB WD HD and Tt eSATA enclosure today... hooked it all up... powered on the eSATA... then smoke started pouring from my case, only took a few seconds and the room was filled with smoke.... the power wire has fried the yellow wire on one of my molex connectors inside my case...
just great.... time to RMA and get a replacement..... and use the drive inside my case for now.....

Thanks HL and Corsair!

i think this happened to my Antec NeoHE Psu the whole case smell like smoke and burnt, that when cpu started showing ridiculously high temp...

it was entirely inside the case so no smoke damage... leaving the side of the case open for ventilation.

Heres whats left of that power wire:

The only thing I can think of is the small gauge of that molex wire since it was not coming directly from the power supply. Although I wonder if the same would have happened to the PSU wire as well... hard to say but I have a newegg chat rep in the live chat now

ok so I have a free replacement coming, and a $25 Newegg credit for damages to my case. I wasn't expecting that...
another reason why I love Newegg.

How can an esata connection that carries only data and no power short out this wire. It looks like your blaming the enclosure when your pics are of inside the chassis. This looks to me like a problem with the wiring job or the wiring to the esata port. esata enclosures do not draw power from the esata port.

The esata connection also requires power. Some have an external brick, but not this one. This item connects to a 4pin Molex connector inside of the case.
