| The Final Word | A lot of times stuff like this simple gets lost in the system. Its easy to jump on the companies case, until you look at the fact that so many people out there are dishonest and manipulate the system. I also notice the link for this item is dead, which makes you wonder.... Remember back to Katrina, the government handed out cash cards and benefits left and right.....and there were guys in prison getting benefits for simply filling out forms, and people as far away as Arizona requesting benefits......Millions about millions were swindled by dishonest, manipulative people. The same happens with companies...I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people will do anything to get out of paying a bill, but I also think that once things get sorted out, the company will do the right thing....if not, then they should be flamed. I think that CA has in fact responded extremely well to the disaster, and I chalk it up to the local governments response. Much like those in LA failed the Katrina victims, the local government deserves the credit or blame for disaster response. Now you are always gonna have the Monday morning QBs in the media who will find fault in everything, but all in all the response to this disaster was about as great as one can expect. | This might seem a little harsh, but the fact is they used the services and owe this company money for them. No laws that will force a company to be 'nice'. My wife and I always try to keep enough in our local savings to pay our bills and let us survive for at least 2 months should anything like this happen to us. I know some can't afford that luxury, but if you sign on the dotted line and over-extend yourself, you have nobody to blame but yourself. With that said, should AT&T waive interest on the bill for a month or two? Sure they should, but nothing is forcing them to do so. And as Capper states, they're way too many greedy bastards out there manipulating the systems for no other reason than to get something they're not owed. | It was on the local news and reposted. I don't know why the link is dead now but they called and even talked to a supervisor trying to get it resolved. I would think that the company could maybe check to see if the area where the service was is one that was affected by the fire. |

| Colonel Calamity | Most of the time when people have services through any given company, part of the "contract" through those companies is that in cases like this where there is a house fire or natural disaster, the customer only needs to pay for services used but any hardware like in this case is written off and the customer does not owe for them. I suspect this is a miscommunication and they will not likely have to pay for it... in some rare cases they do have to pay for it and the insurance company pays the customer back. |

| I'm Diggin it! | A guy down the road from us lost his house in the tornado that messed ours up. His whole house was gone. Dish network billed him $500+ for the dish, boxes and so on. This guy goes to the media, the media rapes Dish Netowrk on the local news. Turns out the guy had not paid his bill for 3 months, had his service discontinued, then informed Dish Network he no longer had the items due to the tornado. So there may be something going on besides just whats been reported in the links above.
