New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family in an appearance before reporters Monday following reports that he was linked to a high-profile prostitution ring.
Spitzer is believed to be an individual linked to a high-profile prostitution ring charged by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Sources told FOX News he is expected to submit a resignation later to the New York General Assembly Monday evening.
Spitzer did not mention resignation in his brief appearance nor has an indictment been unsealed against him.
"Over the past nine years — eight years as attorney general and one as governor — I have tried to uphold a vision of progressive politics that would rebuild New York and create opportunity for all. We sought to bring real change to New York and that will continue," Spitzer said.
"Today, I want to briefly address a private matter. I have acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family, and that violates my — or any sense of right and wrong. I apologize first, and most importantly, to my family. I apologize to the public, who I promised better.

"I do not believe that politics in the long run is about individuals, it is about ideas for the public good and doing what is best for the state of New York. "But I am disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family. I will not be taking questions. Thank you very much. I will report back to you in short order. Thank you very much," Spitzer said.

I always get a big kick out of these hypocrites that want to rant and rave, and judge others.... who then get caught doing this stuff.

I am watching the news, and this guy was actually really despised by most as a snobbish a-hole....and that no one is shedding a tear for him.

There's really no way that you can argue against that either. I highly doubt there is any single politician who is completely clean from stuff like this.


Of course, when you are in the eyes of millions and millions of people, anything can be turned into dirt.

There are very few people that have totally spotless lives. I certainly can't point to anyone and say I'm better than them but I'm not running for public office either. I think he hurt his family more than anything.

Indeed. It's sad, and it's embarrassing. He's probably humiliated and with good reason. Suffice to say, politics has never been one of my priorities in life to follow. We all know (for the most part), that politicians can be crooked and evil, while some can be noble and just. The point is that for the very few politicians in this country that do have spotless records (or just haven't been caught yet, depending on how you look at it) it sullies the ideal that politicians are there for the people, by the people.
