| Pardon the noobish question and short lived post, but what's the point of having spiders logged in this site? I see at the bottom 73 spiders currently active. I've only known spiders to be used in a non-helpful (annoying, possibly destructive) manner... =\ | ||||||||||||||

| The Final Word
| As LH points out, they index all the threads and posts so when people do Google searches, stuff from HL shows up. The reason they are listed? So we know which ones are crawling the site, and which ones aren't....it also lets us know how many visitors are members, are simple visitors, and which ones are spiders. | I always have these behind my house with their 5-30 foot wide webs ![]() the internet term for spider works out quite well, the spider crawls all over the "web" (aka internet) and catches information for displaying on search engines took me a bit to find the info but here it is Web crawler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Heh, same here. I used to have them all over my house and the pool. We used to catch the water bugs and throw them into the web to watch the spider wrap them in silk and drink their innards ^^. The real problem is having to mow my 5 acres of land when they're in season. You'll wrap no less than 20 of those huge webs around your face -- those are the ones you happened not to see. You haven't lived until you wrap one of those around your face while walking/running around or mowing the yard. | ||||||||||||||
