Default So, I just got into an accident...

I was sitting in the backseat of my friend's car. He started speeding down the street (it's like really hilly). He goes over the last hill and there's this black Lexus ES300 waiting to take a left. He slammed the brakes, but they were crappy so we smashed that Lexus.

Here's the kicker. The rear seatbelts weren't working so I didn't have one on. I stubbed my nose into the driver's headrest and fell on my right arm. Nose is fine now, arm has probably a strained vein, and head hurts...

Car's totaled, no one hurt (majorly).

Man, I feel so weird. I was shaking like hell. All I can remember is that smell that filled the cabin right after the hit. It was probably from the brakes. Smells so bad and it keeps coming back.

He was probably going about 40-45 down the street, probably about 30 at moment of collision. I was also JUST about to tell him to slow down. I also had a bad feeling about it from the start... I was like, I think we're gonna get into an accident.

Otherwise, I passed my first three finals...

If the airbags deployed thats what you were smelling. It's a very distinct smell. They inflate via ignition of a dry fuel.

gotta be careful Brownie, summer is here...school is almost out, and young people do stupid things (ok, so they do that all the time). I lost three friends to an accident after a party, they hit a tree and everyone but the driver was killed 9as most cars are built to protect the driver).

Make sure you only ride with people who are responsible and safe.

Yeah, I learned my lesson. I didn't get any pictures of the wreck. I was thinking about taking some pictures, but I thought of it after I came home.

The airbags did deploy, so that was probably it.

Also, like 20 minutes before, the same guy took a turn when a Hyundai Santa Fe was coming at us. If that car hit us, I would have been entirely screwed and probably in the hospital.

Thank God for that.

EDIT: Car was definitely totaled, apparent frame damage, bumper came off. Looking at about $3000-4000 in salvage repair if he wanted to. His dad owns a body shop, but I don't think he'll be driving now.

I could go into a lecture about driving safely here...but I won't. I'll just say that I'm glad to hear that you are still alive and ok, and that no one else was seriously hurt.

Reading what happened to you brought back the accident I was in back in late '04. A woman came screaming out of a Target parking lot onto the street and T-boned my car pretty good. Besides not being seriously hurt, the only other good thing to come of the accident itself was that there was no oncoming traffic coming from the nearby intersection, or I surely would've been creamed by one or more cars, since my car was basically fishtailing for a bit. It could've been bad, since that street is viewed by some as a racetrack...

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!
