Default Scientists Predict When World Will End

FOXNews.com - Scientists Predict When World Will End - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News

Quote:
Scientist have nailed down how and when the Earth will cease to exist.
The sun will slowly expand into a red giant, pushing the Earth further out into space, but not far enough.
Our home planet will be snagged by the sun's outer atmosphere, gradually plunging to its doom inside the fiery stellar furnace.

The good news: This won't happen for another 7.6 billion years.
The bad news: Life on Earth will end long before then.
In fact, we've only got a billion years left before the slowly expanding sun boils off the oceans and reduces our planet to an uninhabitable cinder, says Smith.
well ok then so this explains that global warming IS caused by the sun, not by man... phew I thought there may have been a chance it was our fault

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Topic Avoiding Powers activate!

At least I won't be alive when the Earth ends. This, of course, does not take into thought the "Deep Impact" effect. Where we are all royally boned.

It's the natural life cycle of a star such as the sun. They swell in their later life stages before they die.

That's why I find astronomy interesting - everything you see is living and dying, same as you are. Everything is alive, nothing is permanent. And look into space far enough, you're looking back into time! How cool is that?

Just got a billion years or so to go see if the folks nearby Alpha Centauri are friendly or not.
