| Functional Alcoholic | We have three pets Jade and Copper are our two cats and Libby is our Dog. A little over a year ago one of our cats Copper started having urinary problems. We have had him treated several times, and switched his diet. Well about two weeks ago he took a turn for the worse and my wife took him to the animal hospital here in town. After a 4 day stay he was doing much better, and was on medication. This weekend his meds ran out and he started feeling bad again so my wife took him back to the hospital. We became faced with a decision of either surgery or putting him down. My wife thought about it for a day, and decided that putting him down would be best. She went to the vet this morning to find out that he had taken a turn for the worse and probably wouldn't make it through the day. So she went to get her daughter out of school and called me at work to come say good bye to Copper at the vet. When I got there my wife and her daughter were holding him, and he didn't look good. He was on oxygen and was having problems breathing. The Dr. took us to one of the rooms to explain to us the process of putting him down, and then left to bring in Copper. Well Copper passed away while we were talking to the Dr. They brought him in and we said goodbye for the last time. It's sad, but at least he is no longer in any pain. Those of you that have talked to me on skype have heard Copper trying to get my attention in the background. He liked to hang out in my computer room and keep me company while I was on the computer. I will miss him, and so will the rest of my family. ![]() Brothers Jade (left) and Copper (right) ![]() Copper hanging out with our dog Libby |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | Quote:
Sorry to hear about you and your family's loss, Joe. Being an avid cat lover myself, I know that's rough. In fact, the past 12 months have been particularly rough on HL pet owners in general. :/ | |

| Functional Alcoholic | This has been hardest on my wife and her daughter. They adopted Jade and Copper 7 years ago, before my wife and I got married. They had just recently lost another cat and were looking for another cat to love. They found Jade and Copper two brothers, and didn't want to split them up so they adopted both of them. They reminded my wife of the cat she had lost and instantly fell in love with both of them. Before my wife and I got married, I didn't really like cats. They were both very loving and wouldn't leave me alone, and gradually grew on me, and started to require more and more of my attention as well. My wife used to tease me that if I was allergic to cats she never would have married me. I knew she was actually serious. Thanks for your sympathies, I know that HL is filled with pet lovers, and would understand the difficulty of loosing a pet. They become part of the family which makes it even harder when they pass. |

| My sympathy to all of you, especially the wife. We have been there and done that with a number of pets and saying goodbye is never easy. Time really does heal the wounds and our pets live in our hearts with fond memories forever. Ron |
