Default Remember Them

Remember Them If you are able,
save for them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.
Take what they have have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

"Never was so much owed by so many to so few"
-Winston Churchill

Churchill used this to describe the brave men of the Royal Airforce who flew almost around the clock to win the Battle of Brtian.

It has been used globally by others to describe the Men and Women who have given everything to allow people to remain free.

Today we should remember those who have fought and died as well as those who fought and lived but will never be quite whole again from what war demands of you.

These people gave freely and without question something that can never fully be repaid.

Good day to thank a Vet huh? Unlike Memorial Day this is a good day for all those who still walk among us, as well as those who gave all. All gave some and some gave all.

To those veterans who are among us in this forum allow me to extend a sincere Thank You and close in my own way with a ...

Everyday is a good day to thank a Vet.

I like to think so. Even though we should thank our veterans every day it does seem especially nice to set aside a day to offer thanks for their service to their country. Looking at my initial post I was a bit off base when I said "those who walk among us" in that many no longer walk. The term was not to be taken literally. Many are pushed as their ability to walk was taken away during their time in service to their country.

when i was still active duty, my buddies and i would go out to eat during lunch and random people would come up to us and thank us for serving our country. i thought that was awesome. it would happen about every other time we went out in uniform. one time this guy who was in front of us at quizno's bought all 5 of our meals. we didn't even get to thank him, he just paid and walked out.

Loyalty a factor in heroism
ALBANY, N.Y. - An infantryman charges a pillbox in the face of enemy fire. A firefighter rushes up the stairwell of a burning skyscraper as office workers flee. A teacher shields her student from a schoolyard gunman with her body.

Heroes all. But what personal qualities made them heroic?

In the movies, heroes are charismatic rebels played by the likes of Will Smith or Bruce Willis. But researchers who surveyed decorated World War II veterans found not all heroes are cut from the same swashbuckling cloth. Quiet types with a sense of loyalty and selflessness often have the right stuff, too.
Loyalty a factor in heroism - Yahoo! News

I hope no one paid for this stujdy, as its really one of those "Ya think?" type things. I think everyone has that ability to be a hero, every single person, and what separates those who do from whose that don't do what needs to be done actually has nothing to do with "heroics", but more with the person's values overall.

One of the best scenes from the greatest series ever

MY appreciation is right here locally, every chance I get I thank a current or former service member... which is a LOT because they are all over the place here by Eglin AFB.

Thanks HL and Corsair!
