Default Question

My wife works for a construction company and they need a device that can be used on the job site that to input hours spent on different parts of the job and be sent to their office computers. The office computers have an accounting software from jd edwards that covers the different areas of the job using codes so the hand held device would need to accept software for this purpose and also need to be very tough since it may get dropped. Any ideas on what would be useful?

My first thought was to use a little kid! He could run back and forth with the job codes

Seriously though, I am not sure what would work, maybe one of the little hand held computers, but I just don't know how tough they would be.

Excel couldn't do this though? Scanners and PDA's are one thing, but large sites still seem more efficient using the old gimme app. I'd use to take 5 minutes in the job trailer and update the file, but now could use the smart phones. Then the Super would compare the hours against the planned bid and ride my butt harder. His bonus, not mine ya know?

If you need an alternative method, I'll be talking to the guy tomorrow and can see if they use anything new. My beef there are the licensing, and know every super company wide could use excel. High number of employees?

Eh I overstated some. I asked her if they were outside the US and She said yes. Turns out that means Guam. Still a large company though with projects throught out the US.
