| I'm Evil | HL is a great community, full of people who want to help, and get help....but we have a responsibility as staff, and established members, to make sure people are getting good advice. There are several people here who are great at helping others and giving advice to members.....but there are a few who concern me giving advice or recommendations. Please make clear what is a fact, as in you have experience using the product in question....and please make clear what is an opinion, or hearsay.......as in its something you've read, or been told about. Far too often lately, I'm seeing a few members making recommendations that i know to be questionable, or plain wrong.......not that theres anything wrong in sharing an opinion, but when people come here for help, and someone gives them bad advice or information, it hurts the site more than it helps. As such, from now on, i'll PM people when I think they are way off base or giving bad advice, so they can explain their point of view, or clear up the issue, and extreme cases, I'll simply delete the post. I want this to be a great forums, and community, but above all else I want it to be a good resource to people who need help and information. Its not a typical forum....i want let people just post anything they wish, and as the rules say, I reserve toe right to delete posts and threads as i see fit....for the best of the site. | HL's Technomancer | Most of us are just enthusiasts as well, and I'll be the first to tell ya I don't know everything, and my advice is just based off what I've come across or encountered. This sounds like a good idea, the person giving advice learns something new if they weren't too knowledgeable on the question and the asker doesn't get advice that can screw them up. |

| I'm Evil | Theres absolutely nothing wrong with conversation, or tossing around ideas.....but I want HL to be different in that its more about putting out good information, and helping people. I just want people to stop for a second and tell folks whether they are offering an opinion, or sharing facts...... | The point that Capper is making is actually a very valid one. Too many times I see something posted on a forum where it is clear that the person saying it is either totally wrong, or is generously offering copious amounts of bullshit to cover their ass when confronted. In any event, the standard that I go by when making reccomendations or answering questions are: a) I only answer or make a reccomendation unless I know it to be truth, can back it up with proof, or I am inherently familiar with the subject matter. b) If I don't know, I will not reply until I research the question and am able to answer it intelligently. c) If I am clueless about the subject matter, I don't post blithe, bullshit answers and make it sound like I do. Honesty goes a long way, and so does knowing your limitations. |

If you really are an expert, then I guess your response was written just to see if the rest of us recognize your error. As everyone knows, a good steak should be lightly salted, generously rubbed with garlic, grilled medium rare, and never brought near an onion! (Every gourmand knows that the allium cepa, if it must be used at all, should only be added to the poorest cuts of beef.) ![]() Core 2 Duo E6750 Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Abit IP35 Pro 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 EVGA 8800GT 500GB Seagate Barracuda 32MB Cache Coolermaster RC-690 OCZ StealthXStream 600 watt Acer AL2216W 22" monitor Windows XP Pro SP2 | |
