OnStar an invasion of privacy?

Overall I think it's a really cool system, and it seems to have helped a lot of people in various situations. But what about instances like this?

Granted this kid probably deserved it, but it is a bit scary to think that you can be tracked down based on what you do in your vehicle.

My guess is the collision notification triggered On-Star to notify the police (authorities) as they well should. Then when police arrived the kid was already gone and the athletic field a disaster. The police got smart...

It wasn't like On-Star volunteered the information. The information was provided only after a subpoena was drafted. No foul there.

I have On-Star on two of my vehicles and am very happy with it.
IF I were to engage in criminal activity, and IF I could be named as a viable suspect and IF the police department investigating me could get a subpoena
for my On-Star records (or be smart enough to pursue a subpoena for it),
all the more power to them.

Now on the other hand, if a government agency did a blanket fishing expedition with On-Star looking for people who otherwise weren't even suspects, they'd have some serious civil lawsuits against them (both
the agency and On-Star).

nah, none of my vehicles have it and I would opt-out if one had it. I prefer to keep my illegal activities a secret, I don't want to get a speeding ticket a month later for my usual lead foot. I know they don't do this but this is one area that I prefer privacy over accessibility.
