Oktoberfest 2006

I went to Oktoberfest again this year. Just like we did last year, we went on the 1st day. I would have preferred to go later, but my wife likes the Parade. We all know that the wife always wins. I had a blast as always, and here are some pictures to prove it. Enjoy.

It starts in September and ends in October. They had to move it back 2 weeks because the weather gets so bad here in October. Useally have snow that time of year.

The historical background: the first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on October 12, 1810 and ended on October 17th with a horse race. In the following years, the celebrations were repeated and, later, the festival was prolonged and moved forward into September.

By moving the festivities up, it allowed for better weather conditions.
