Default NY State Investigating Intel

New York launches antitrust probe into Intel | Technology | Reuters

If charges are true, it seems a rather stupid move on Intel's part seeing how their processors were (are) killing AMD's by means of their superior
performance. Did they wish to try to crush their primary adversary while it was down and wounded, or were they worried that AMD just might be able to get back on its feet. Regardless, ethics and morality seem to have little or no place in today's corporate world.

I really have been expecting this for a long time, up until a year or two ago, Intel used their muscle to coerce Dell and HP (for a period of time) and possibly other companies not to use AMD, or at least that's how the story goes.

AMD Started this lawsuit a few years ago, back when they were dominating Intel, and gaining market share by the second. So don't think this is anything new just because intel is ontop now. The suit has just simple developed further now.

Someone i know did tell me that they owned a PC Shop, and intel gave them two choices, either A: Stop selling AMD CPUs, or B: Face huge price increases. Whether or not the person was telling the truth, I have no clue.

It would have had to be a huge PC shop!!! Most all of the smaller to mid size PC shops have to purchase inventory from distributors, not from the manufactures themselves. Most of the very large manufactures will only sell to OEM companies such as Dell or HP.

I don't know if, technically, there was coercion involved, but both of our local shops are "Intel only". The owner or one of them told me that he gets a substantial discount for using only Intel processors and motherboards.

If any size shop signs a contract or agreement with Intel to be an Intel only location, they can get deeper discounts on direct sales.
I worked for a local computer shop that had this issue and he wouldn't sign it.
