Default Now I'm friggin frustrated...

So my second Antec Neo 550 HE has died. Now I know why. I RMA'ed the first one thinking it was just that particular PSU, but then the second one went out and I was pissed off.

So I'm bitching about it while taking it apart and guess what? I find pieces of brush in there. Figuring out exactly what it came from, the brush nozzle on the wand of my wife's vacuum cleaner, I asked my wife about it. She gets this funky "Oh SHIT!" look on her face and says, "Well, there's always so much dust on the outside of that thing I just pass over it with the vacuum from time to time.

Well, that's just friggin dandy....WHEN THE $*!&#(@ THING IS TURNED OFF!

Now I feel like a friggin thief for having RMA'ed the first one.

So I keep my cool about it....and I plug in an old ass Ultra X to my Q6600 rig. That PSU lasted all of 12 hours before it died.

So now, not only am I frustrated because my Q6600 rig is down, I'm pissed off because I can't buy a new one till pay day. But I'm keeping my calm with the wife. You know, not that big a deal since nothing else has been hurt.

Well, just a few minutes ago, she comes walking in and tells me our next door neighbor was outside with his laptop looking for an unsecured network. These guys just moved back in and while I think they're great guys, I wasn't about to let anyone into my network. I don't think he would have had the range from across the street anyway with security protocols enabled. Well, the wife tells him she will get me to set him up on ours.

So now, I sit here at my computer about to shut it down because with my main rig being down, I'm on my HP ZD8000 laptop, which is typically only used for bill paying and secure transactions here in the house. I now have a wide open network so the guy across the street has the range needed to use his laptop on his front porch till he can get the cable company out to his house.

My wife has now officially pissed me the hell off.

Must be something about the weather here in the south because mine was a total bitch today too... my next wife will be nice, even if I have to beat it into her

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Tread carefully with that decision, because:

1) Leaving it wide open for your neighbors means it's also wide open for anyone else nearby or wandering around. A particularly savvy user could intercept your login/passwords, as well as any sensitive information you have stored on your HDD. Alternately, you could set your neighbors up with secured access until the cable guys arrive, and then change your security key.

and

2) If they get caught doing something illegal on your openly shared network, such as downloading/sharing copyrighted content, it gets traced back to you.

Yeah, I've already locked it down for the night. Tomorrow, I'm just going to tell him to come over here when he needs Internet. All the things you've listed, in addition to many others, went through my head when I opened it up. I've sat around feeling naked until about 10 minutes ago. If I didn't like the guy so much, there's no way in hell I would have opened it up.

BTW, I kept an eye on the Attached Devices screen looking for a weird MAC address. Luckily, there aren't any kids or Computer savvy people within 150 meters of my house.

Women...

We seem to hate to love them as much as we love to hate them sometimes.

But they're essential.

One more thing...

She's your wife. Deal with it.

Do you have kids? Because they may be worse..

:P

ROFLMAO ... I'm sorry quake ... but that is a classic. I laugh because my wife is the neurotic cleaner ... but she knows better to not touch my stuff.

Shes come pretty close to vacuuming up a cord or two tho.

Sorry for your dilemma.

Yea, if my wife even came within a room of my computer with a vacuum, we would be without a vacuum for awhile
