Default New Year's Resolution - Computer Tech Knowledge

As the year draws to a close, the sheer changes in the computer technology market have been staggering. Many new products have hit the shelves, and many products promising better feature sets are soon to be on their way.

With this in mind, it's easy to get behind on computer technology if you are not actively keeping abreast of it. I thought it might be interesting (and educational) for people to post a couple things that they would like to know more about when it comes to computers as part of their New Year's Resolution.

Here's how it works:

1) Post a couple of things about computers or computer technology that you would like to learn more about.

2) People then respond to your post with links to websites or write short informative posts about the technology you listed that you want to know about.

3) Those people that replied to your post then list a couple things they want to know more about.

4) Rinse and repeat.

Have fun, and remember, with knowledge comes power! ;)

Couple things I'd like to learn more about:

1) Overclocking - RAM and CPU (specifically, AMD64 3500+, and 2.5-2-2-5 OCZ RAM)
2) Burnable media and players - DVD's, CD's
3) Intel processor names/features/spec's
4) nVidia graphic card names/features/spec's

Thats a pretty good idea Garetjax!!!

One thing that I am currently working on, is a complete article about the new upcoming products for 2007.

This will be a list of several catagories including things like, CPU's, motherboards, video cards, harddrives, DVD's, CD's, power supplies, etc...

I think you can kind of get the picture.

I do think that this idea that you came up with is real good one man.

That is a real good one Onebxr!!! A real good overclocking guide!!!
It will be a tough chore though, with all of the different motherboards and the way each has there own thing in the Bios, but none the less, that would be a great guide

I am long overdue for a new PC and need to get knowledged up on quite a few things. I guess I would want to start with learning more about...

1) Good video cards on the market today or some that are not out yet but show promise in their release.

2) Dual processors

3) Overclocking...I have never been very successfull with this. I either have problems with it rebooting itself or getting too hot.

4) Cooling.

I think I would like to know more about water cooling. For some reason though, I have never had the balls to really take it to that level. To me, water in such close proximity to electrical components like a PSU and RAM and mobo just really scare the crap out of me if something should happen.
