Default New spin on Gamespot

OpEd

What better way to boost a sites traffic and long-term readers than to have something big happen. Regardless if it is good or bed, no news is bad news for many sites. I believe someone at Gamespot saw their numbers were falling and falling fast due to their mediocre reviews (many of which are bought off by the company they are reviewing and loss of new and unique traffic. They knew editor Jeff Gerstmann was likely on his way out anywayssince he did not fit into this "review it how the manufacturer wants it reviewed", so what better way than to create a scene and make it look like he was fired, released or let go over some review. Then go to the press release after a week and say it was completely unrelated. Of course Jeff can't say why because anytime he is contacted for an interview, "He wasn’t able to comment on the terms of his firing, which he confirmed took place on Nov. 28, because of a “standard confidentiality agreement.”" How convenient. Silence the one man that can break open how corrupt and biased Gamespot really is.... or maybe he was in on it to begin with, who knows.
Of course, one review links to hundred of others and someone new comes to the site to see the controversial topic and see other games he may like and reads on. Unique hits abound and once it all settles down they have thousands or millions of new readers and the site is back on the up and up.
That is until..... people see what a crappy advertising ridden money hungry site and company they really are.
Gamespot is on the way out and for good reason. This just delayed their time of death a few months.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Forgive my ignorance, but what makes them corrupt? Just curious.
