Default MySpace to Offer Parental-Notification Software

Quote:
MySpace.com plans to offer free parental notification software in a bid to appease government critics, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. Parents will be able to use the software, named "Zephyr," to find out what name, age and location their children use to represent themselves on MySpace, the Journal said.
It would not allow parents to read their children's e-mail or see their profile pages, and it would alert children that their information was being shared, the paper reported.

As long as the kids know they're being monitored, I think it's good.
I don't have a stance on kids privacy, it's hard to tell whether or not they should be monitored. Some are really responsible, while others are.... well not very responsible. In the end, it's all for their safety, but some parents are over-doing it by reading thru their e-mails and logs.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

I hated having tabs being kept on me when I was growing up but now that I have a kid I can see why, especially since I have a daughter. You can bet your ass with what I know about technology, when the time is right I will be having monitoring software put on her computer, not just MySpace but everything.

I trust my daughter at this point anyway and she is usually monitoring my behavior.

Seriously though if you pay attention to your child you'll know if something is going on without having to spy on their every move.

This is excellent, and if kids were honest it would be fantastic.
But now you'll get kids saying they're 18 or older so they don't need a parental, or they will set themselves up a yahoo! or other free email and get around the whole "letting your parents know" thing.

That's what I was about to say at first, but seeing how some of my friends (when I was in my teen years :P) were very secretive and did not necessarily had a good relationship with their parents I can understand how and why some parents might be worried.

Ever watch "To catch a predator", or heard of pervertedjustice.com? man, the world is full of sickos, and kids don't have the experience or common sense to know better.
