Default My job/My car

Just a little update...

I finally (after a self-made two month break) landed some work, but it's not what I usually do. Well, it sort of is - I got temporary work driving what's known as a "switcher" at a Home Depot DC. Basically, I set trailers in and out of loading docks for 9-10 hours a day, which is part of the reason you haven't seen me much lately. Not what I'd do for a career, but it's only until I move next month.

Also, my car has been repainted, and now the dealer just has to clean up some minor imperfections in the paint work, then put the pony emblems and side tape back on, and my Mustang will be good to go once again! The dealer managed to get it done in a week, despite having to disassemble the body. They guarantee their work for five years, so we'll see how good they are. I inspected it the other day, and one of the scratches was so bad, that I could still see it a little, even through new paint. I'll find out after the holiday if they were able to remedy that, among other things.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

Big difference between a job, and a career. Well Home Depot is a decent company, even though the job is just temporary. Have you got a Job laid on for when you get to NM?

Once your car has to get repainted its never the same again. My truck has had body work done on it twice, and I can see a difference between the original paint and the new paint.

True enough about job vs. career. My career is driving trucks (at this point), but I've had many jobs, and this one, while brief, is no different. I just meant that I quickly discovered that I would not want to list "yard goat driver" as my career, LOL!

I don't have anything solid going for NM yet, but I have my eye on at least two companies there, with a list of about 25 or so others as backup. I've applied online with one, and already applied with one here with the idea that the information will be used in NM. For that one, I need to call a guy in Arizona to see if I can get on.

When I inspected my car the other day, I did notice that the paint seemed different in some spots (not color wise), like it looked kind of thick around the wheel wells, but maybe that was because they hadn't finished the detail work yet. One thing I did notice, was the doors don't quite close the same way, because they had to take them off. The driver door had an issue with the window squeaking a bit when opening and closing (it goes down a bit when open and up when closed), and the other door doesn't feel the same. So, I'll find out early this morning if all the issues were taken care of.

Your car will never be the same after some body work. It's just a fact of life. The best you can do is complain and hope the Body Shop does the best job it can to bring it back to normal. I fought with the Body Shop that fixed my 4Runner for 3 years to get it fix right. I am still fighting BTW. I shipped the truck to Germany about 3 months after I had body work done. So getting problems fix has been hard to say the least. You better believe as soon as I get back to Colorado I am driving my truck right to that Body Shop. I have paint peeling, over spray, rough spots, and on the hood they sprayed clear coat over rusted rock chips.

Another update on the car...

I got my Mustang back this morning! Woot!:driver:
I drove it the 30+ miles to my job, and all seems well. I was having all kinds of nightmarish thoughts that the body would fall apart on the road, but instead it seems pretty solid. The dealer took care of all the little issues with the finish that I saw before, and I think they redid the doors too, because they seem to close in a more normal way now. I'm gonna take it through my car wash to make sure all the glass seals are good. I've been driving my mom's car for a few weeks, and got used to it, and now I'm having to get used to my own car again.

The only thing that sucks is that I have to wait up to 60 days before I can put coats of wax on the finish, so I'm gonna be praying nothing major happens to it in that time.

Congrats on getting your car back. I know you're getting ready to go through a lot of changes in your life, so this is one less thing to worry about.

It is nice being back in the Stang, I must admit. I missed it...

As far as the move goes, my wife just got done setting up utility services for the new apartment in Rio Rancho (just outside ABQ), so now it's all starting to seem more real. We were both born/raised in California, so the idea of living in a different state is a little unnerving, but Cali has gotten so bad on so many fronts, so it's a case of gotta-do-what-ya-gotta-do. 16 days from today, we're packing up a truck and gettin' outta dodge, and on to what we hope is a better life.

It will at least be cheaper. New Mexico isn't so bad. Every year they have the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta we used to go down there when I was stationed at Ft Carson.

I left California in 93 and haven't missed all the traffic, rude people and high prices. Although I would like to import the weather.
