Default My birthday gifts are on the way...

I finally got the chance (with some birthday cash) to order some HDDs for the Eagle enclosure I got from here. They should be here in a day or two. Newegg shipped less than 24 hours after I ordered them.

I ordered two WD 1TB drives and I also got a DVD burner with LightScribe (yeah, I'm finally getting on the LS bandwagon).

I probably won't get a chance to set them up until the weekend, but I'm in no hurry. Hopefully, I won't run into any issues.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

What about my birthday gifts? :D

As for lightscribe: It's only interesting the first time. Then you realize it's mostly worthless and "expensive" (as opposed to non lightscribe media.)

Is it your birthday too? God, I'm sorry - I'll get right back to Newegg and set you up... :D

As to the LS, I'm really only interested in maybe doing some LS labeling on some blank CDs I've burned lately with songs I've downloaded, so I don't have to use sticky paper labels or write on them with a sharpie. I don't like the ink going right through the disc.

I hope your discs are Lightscribe compatible them. :)

And yeah, my birthday is somewhere soon.

Hmm - shows how much I know about LS. I didn't think it would matter one way or the other. I thought that it was just a matter of the drive "LightScribing" on the one side of the disc.

Nope. You need lightscribe compatible media, which is why I was saying it's good for novelty but not all that cool when you have to spend more to get LS compatible CDs. Also, LightScribe has quite a few inconvenients. It wears off if exposed to light, heat (everyone knows how hot a CD can become in a CD player) or humidity.

I might add, that it takes a ton of time to light scribe on a disk!!!

What I guess are belated birthday wishes to Gig-O-Ram and an early happy birthday wish to Polo.

LightScribe? Been there and done that. Interesting the first few times if you like greyscale for color and paying for the media cost. Personally I saw no real merit to it. Tried the transparent labels too and those were amusing but the disk need a solid color background without printing. The wife has a little Epson Stylus Photo R280 that does a nice job of printing on printable disk. I like that the best.

Nice getting a few new 1 TB drives for the build.

Ron

Never had problems with my lightscribe disks getting messed up while playing, but I did make the mistake of leaving them in the car. The sunlight seemed to mess them up more than heat though... the part of the cd that was exposed to sunlight faded pretty bad, pretty fast.

Still have some blank discs laying around though... I should get some software installed that'll do lightscribe and use them up already.

Around 20 minutes last time I tried. I'm not sure if it's any faster now.

Haha yeah, you're not supposed to do that. Those I got in the car faded quickly because of the heat of the CD player.

CD player is right under the LCD and over the volume knob. I think the vents and the sun hitting on the dash make it heat pretty quickly since CDs are always relatively hot when I get them out of there.
