| Re: Memorial Day Had to think of the Irony as I watched the Ronald Reagan leave from North Island, with the support group of 6 other ships roll out under the Coronado bridge this morning. Men and women going out to do their duty, the hardships they're about to face, and their families strung down the piers worried for the next 6 to 9 months for their counterpart on the haze grey beasts. I'm dumbfounded and have to stay and extra hour of the 13th hour of a shift just to watch, and pray for them all to be safe and do the right things for us all.
Up here at Miramar, it's always somber to watch them guys day and night working. Can't help but look at the cold beer in my hand and then give 'em a prost to each low fly by. I get to lounge out in my shorts on a now nice and comfy night for a healthy span of porch-set'n, while them guys are up there at work (I'd say hard, but come on...they're fly'n!). Some would look at the constant jet noise as a pain in the ass. I smile wider the closer they get. I may wake up thinking it's flight quarters, or it's just really really close.
However, I get to do this comfortable stuff because they're all out there Take'n Care Of Business. So a prost to those serving, those that have served, those MIA, and those that have passed in service. |
