You've got to love, direct drive and no brakes. Mix this with a heavy dose of "I have to win" and this is the aftermath. Reminds me of Sprint Car racing.

I can't say for track racing, but I sometimes race mountain bikes, and no, it doesn't happen very often mostly because the racers go at timed intervals so that sort of stuff doesn't happen.
