Default man arrested for selling vintage bottles

FOXNews.com - What to Do with $1M in Booze? Man Says, Save the Bottles - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

A man collected thousands of vintage bottles of Jack Daniels and after he sold one for $350, he was arrested and his collection taken away... the police claim that since they still contained the original alcohol, it was illegal for him to sell any...

Quote:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A man who has been indicted on charges of illegally possessing up to $1 million worth of Jack Daniel's whiskey claims he is a collector who was trying to sell the vintage bottles they came in, not the spirits.
Randy Piper of Goodlettsville was indicted on four counts related to the illegal possession, sale, transportation and storage of the liquor.
Officials seized 2,400 bottles last October after receiving a tip that someone was selling alcohol without a license. They raided two warehouses owned by Piper and a home in Lynchburg where the famous Tennessee sipping whiskey is distilled.
The value of the seized liquor has possibly been driven up by the value of the antique bottles.
Piper told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he has been collecting Jack Daniel's bottles for about six years.
Piper's attorney, Raymond Fraley Jr. of Fayetteville, said his client was singled out for selling one bottle for approximately $350 and charged with illegally possessing all the others.

The Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg TN is part of Moore County, Tennessee, which is ironically a dry county. So the man is in violation of the county liquor laws, hope he has a good lawyer, because liquor laws are hard to fight, especially in the Bible belt.

Here in OK, all they sell is 3.2% beer, If I go across the border into Texas (45min away) and bring back a 12 pack of beer from Texas, and get caught I could face up to 3 years in prison for illegally transporting alcohol across state lines.

if he is claiming the "collectors" and "vintage" point of view, then they are collectors items, not alcohol sales... so this is a tough camp for both sides....

Like I said I hope he has a good Lawyer, more then likely the charges will be reduced, and he will just have to pay a fine.

Allright Smokey and the Bandit!

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

There are some import beers sold on post that exceed the 3.2%, but they are very expensive (12 pack of Heineken $16). After 3 years of drinking German beer, it's like drinking bottled water. As you have probably noticed from my nicer posts, I haven't been drunk in months.
