Default Lost Luggage - Southwest Airlines

We flew into Las Vegas from Oakland this past week and were greeted with the fact that one of our bags did not make it (stop over in Burbank). Of course we went to the lost baggage office and notified them but it was a particularly sour way to start a few days in Sin City. We spent a considerable amount of time with this issue and all the fun that goes along with it. The bag never showed and now we have to file a claim.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone else has felt this pain before and wouldn't mind sharing their experience. I'm pretty sure we will not recover the dollar amount of items that we lost but since we are still going through the process I would appreciate any tips on the matter.

Always carry on if it's just a short trip.

actually, we follow this rule when we can but this was a week long trip that started in the bay area, then Vegas and then back to San Diego. couple that with the fact that my wife packs the entire closet and we also brought a few presents.

but an obvious problem i see is the fact that anyone can go into an airport baggage claim area and pick up luggage off the rack without any sort of security measures. i'm sure there are several airports that check but most do not.

You came to Las Vegas without calling me? The guy who stole your bags probably is the same guy who took your cookies, cooler, and presents

hahaha, i've had bad luck all week long and now i have a headache. i'm hoping that it can't get any worse.

Rich, i thought about getting in contact with you but i did not want to impose on you during the holidays as we were on the strip. i was with the in-laws, wife and kid so i had my hands full at all times.

sidenote - don't bring your two year old to Vegas.

[STRIKE] A few Several [/STRIKE] Many years ago before marriage/kid/etc. my golf clubs disappeared during a trip home to my parents (I don't think I've played golf more than 10 times since getting married).

Not the same as losing luggage, but it's the closest I can come. Didn't really affect me, since Dad is a golf nut and could easily outfit two foursomes with all the clubs/bags/etc. he has lying around.

I think I got the max reimbursement ($300) at the time, which didn't come close to replacing the clubs (which were pretty new). Happy ending, though (no, not THAT kind) - I kept the money AND Dad outfitted me with a very good used set at no cost to me!

Hope it works out well for you...

What I have heard of being done before is this....take your carry on only....quick ship your luggage to a UPS store or mailboxes plus location in the same area you are going.Hope that made sense.
