Default Leaving Germany

As some of you already know I am getting ready to leave Germany in the middle of October. I have been here almost 3 years and it's been great. My family and I have had a great time. We have done lots of traveling, and met some life long friends. Some of the highlights of Living here have been.... Seeing Lance Armstrong ride in his last Tour De France in 05. Watching USA vs Italy at the 06 World Cup. Going to Oktoberfest in 05 and 06, and probably again in 07. Attending several huge European LAN Parties, one of them being over 5000 people. Seeing famous cities, like Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Paris, Munich, Amsterdam and London. Snow skiing in the Alps, and playing Golf on several different courses over here. Driving as fast as I want on the Autobahn, and the unbelievable Beer. We have been to more fest then I can count, and my Beer Stein collection has grown substantially since we have been here. It's been a great experience and I am really glad I was able to live here.

I am being reassigned to Ft Sill OK, where I will be an AIT instructor. We have already started the process of buying a home in Lawton OK. This wasn't my first choice of places to live, but I just couldn't pass up this job opportunity. My wife will only be 8 hours from home, so she is happy about that.

I am shipping my Truck tomorrow, so it will be in Dallas when we get there. The movers come on Thur and Fri, so we will be down to the bare minimum for the next 6 weeks. I will take some pictures so you guys will. Watching someone move all your stuff gets kinda crazy sometimes. I am keeping one computer so I will still be around online. This is going to be a real busy week, but the rest of the move should be uneventful until we leave Germany.

Germany => OK.
I know someone who moved to oaky in 5th or 6th grade.
other than that, I don't know much about Oklahoma.

How was Oktoberfest? Was it like in the movie beerfest?

Hey Joe, glad to have you coming back to American soil! I know you'll miss the beer over there though! Just be ready for the TRADOC environment. It kinda sucks and is really boring, but on the plus side there's no Iraq deployments!

Just take it easy and try to stay stress free. By the time y ou get here, I should have that FSX add-on CD ready for you.

Well I hope everything goes smoothly and you have a good experience at your new place. It seems as though all good things must come to an end, but at least you'll walk away from this one with some great experiences and life long memories.

Good luck with everything bro!

Boring is good, and no deployments is even better. It was either Drill Sergeant, Recruiter or Instructor. Both of the other 2 suck worse then instructor.

Really hard to put in words about leaving Germany, but going from a line unit to a TRADOC unit, is a plus. Like Tom said, and the biggest plus of it all is: No deployments!!! 6 of my last 9 years was as an Instructor there at Vilseck, Germany in Call For Fire. Field duty = one trip per year to gas chambers, and one trip to rifle range for qual. Rest of the time was putting up with stupid shits thinking they knew how to call in Arty or Mortars because they did it differently in Gruntland than Artyland!!! At least as an AIT Instructor you get all those fresh(?) brains right out of Basic!!! Make the best of it Joe, and try that place East of Sill, if it's still open, I think it's called Plantation (something) really good eats when I was there in 96 for ANCOC. It's by a river/stream/creek (whatever them Okies call them) and also has pretty decent fishing. And, STAY away from the Strip outside the back (or West) gate!!!!! Not conducive (sp) to a good marriage!!!

Retired_Redleg

PS if you happen to run across an old retired 1SG by name of Tommy Mann, tell him I said hi from Berlin!!! I was only a SGT then and had to work in the Orderly room and drive him and the Btry Cdr around Meunster.

Wow you haven't been to FT Sill in awhile. Jesus came to Lawton about 8 years ago and closed the strip. What evil strip bars there are left in Lawton are outside of the city limits.
