Default The last couple of months...

...have been interesting, if not stressful.

In the last two months, I've quit a job, spent time looking for another, had one come to me, and gone through about four computer monitors!

What's up, all? Let's see...I quit a job on March 3rd due to some safety issues, spent that week putting down 15-20 job apps (some online) and then doing follow-ups. I heard nothing from any of them, except for one, and they weren't sure what they were going to do with the position. Then one day I got a call from a guy who found my resume on Monster.com with a cake position driving for Walgreens' private fleet. It sounded good, so I took it. I'm now going into my fourth week with them! That said, I'm now setting my sights on my next system build, but it may not happen for a while yet. I gotta get the $$ and everything else stabilized first. Getting our earnest deposit back from the real estate company really helped! We're putting the house thing on hold for now.

Four Monitors you ask?

My long serving CRT died, so I got a Hanns-G 19" WS LCD with 10K:1 aspect ratio from Newegg. It was nice, but DVDs and the music vids I've made looked like cartoonish pixelated crap, so I conviced NE to take it back, despite their policy on that. I got another 19" LCD from Best Buy, but I wasn't happy with that one either, so back it went. I tried a Viewsonic 19" CRT from Dell.com, and it was fine until the screen started to fade in some areas, which was downright annoying! I returned that one, and now I'm on a Samsung Syncmaster 20" WS LCD with 2ms and 3000:1 that seems to be doing just fine.

Now all I need to do is get used to my new schedule, which has me coming home from work when most people are going TO work, LOL! I work from 10:30PM to about 5:30 or 6 in the AM, with an hour to and from work. All I do is drive from Santa Fe, NM to Trinidad, CO where I switch trailers with a driver from Denver, and then I go back to Santa Fe. And the money is more like what I got in California, so that's why I'm thinking new computer in the near future!

sounds like all is doing well, good to hear...
but relating to the 4 monitors.... if that happened to me, I would start looking at the video card and drivers.

As far as I can tell, my video card is doing fine. It gets plenty of cooling, and never overheats when gaming (it gets right to the line between green and yellow zones, but never to red). My drivers are not that old (93.71), and seem to work well. I suppose an update never hurts, but I just haven't done it in a while. I guess I need to see if I can still get driver support for the 7800GT.

The thing with the Viewsonic I had breifly was sort of my fault I think - I put a speaker on top of it, and almost immediately, the screen got darkened near the top and it spread out from there and it never recovered. My bad, I guess - but Dell doesn't need to know that, LOL! I forgot about the magnet in the speaker...

Gig, sounds like your new "gig" is what you were looking for all along! I know all about life getting real busy suddenly, so I feel your pain. Good to see you back though. Hope the house thing works out for you in the very near future!

Sounds hectic. Good to hear things are on the up.

As far as monitors are concerned, Samsung have some of the very best displays going. It should last for years.

Thanks, guys

Yeah, this new "gig" is just about what I've spent years hoping for. I've done one thing or another trucking wise over the last ten years, and I think I've more than paid my dues, and now I get to focus on doing what I paid a lot of money to learn to do - drive! The possibility exists that I may have to throw freight once in a while (like I did the other night...), and I suppose that's okay, but I like the driving without a lot of physical work. I did that stuff for a long time in another position a few years ago, but let's face facts - I'm gettin' too old for that stuff, LOL!

As for the house thing - well, that was almost a huge mistake, in that we were so sure of how things were going to work for us after our move, that I was actually signing contract papers on a house with NO JOB! When it became clear that the job front here wasn't what we thought it would be, we backed out before crossing the point of no return. Then, at one point, I HAD a job, but was making so little with it, that it almost seemed like I didn't have a job, and though working, we were actually falling deeper into a hole, like using a credit card to make a car payment one month...stuff like that. But that's all changed now thanks to that fateful phone call.

After the $$ gets more into order, then we can start to play home buyers again...
