Keanu Reeves to star in ‘Day The Earth Stood Still

Yet another classic ruined!!!!! the first hint was Keanu Reeves......but for those of you that have seen the original, how much sense does it make to change the theme from nuclear war to global warming?

With mankind’s first uncertain steps into the atomic age comes a warning from beyond the stars: cease your fighting and your wars or you will be destroyed. “The decision rests with you,” Klaatu says by way of farewell at the end of “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” a classic of Cold War science-fiction from 1951. Fifty years later and Klaatu has a new message for humanity, but one with equally dire consequences should we choose to ignore it, Keanu Reeves, who is playing the alien in Scott Derrickson’s upcoming remake, told MTV News.
“The first one was borne out of the cold war and nuclear détente. Klaatu came and was saying cease and desist with your violence. If you can’t do it yourselves we’re going to do it. That was the film of that day,” Reeves explained. “The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it’s more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives. I’m a friend to the earth.”
While humanity still engages in a staggering number of international conflicts, the environmental message is one that, not only encompasses wars, and fights, and terrorism, but one that goes beyond constrictions to become a millennial message of “what we are doing and who we are as a species,” Reeves insisted. “We’re trying to reach beyond the idea of [just] environmentalism.”
Among the other changes in the film, none may be more radical than Gort, Klaatu’s robot companion (or leader in some versions), that, let’s face it, looked like the tin-man in 1951. FX should change that, right?
“Hey man, don’t put that tin man down! That was iconoclastic!” Reeves protested. “[But] yes, we have another version of the [robot].”
One thing that won’t change? According to Reeves, he still says the immortal words, “Klaatu barada nikto.”

I have no idea.......but you just can't take anything Keanu Reeves does seriously.....outside of Brendan Fraser, Keanu might be the worst actor of our generation.

Two points -

One: Global warming has become the hobgoblin of the libs. First they were all worried about global COOLING, nukes (power plants and bombs), and Vietnam in the '70s; then they all got Gordon Gecko-greedy in the '80s, and in the '90s it was, hell I don't know, maybe the first Iraq war or defending Billy boy's abuses before and in the Oval Office.

Now they're all aging and have got to have something to protest again. The current sitution in Iraq is going well so they can't march and protest that, so what's next? The latest fad among these glitterati is "global warming". What a crock.

Is it any surprise that Hollywood is making a movie where global warming is front an center as a threat, not only to our world (apparently) but to the entire Universe? How does that work, anyhow - now we're not just hurting our planet, we're so awful that an advanced technology has to step in? Call me crazy, but I don't think the advanced races (and yeah, I think the odds are good that they are out there) really care that much about our little corner of the sky.

Two: How many lines will it take before Keanu lapses into "Whoa, dude" speak?

That's my rant for the day.

Keanu Reaves? Why not Steven Segal? That way they can script a bunch of great lines for him "Is it hot enough for you".

Or how about Chuck Norris? He can go around roundhouse kicking everyone so they stop exhaling, and thereby saves the world from Global Warming.

Or how about they just not make a stupid ass preachy movie that no one's going to watch - see recent movies on war. How well did those preachy pieces of crap do?

I guess my point is that this thread was about Keanu Reeves starring in a movie that is based primarily on global warming. It is also a discussion based on how bad of an actor he is. Then, (as with anything) it is quickly derailed and turns into a political diatribe about how evil the libs are, yadda, yadda, global warming is a scare tactic used by politicians and Hollywood is evil for implementing it in their movies. Whatever.

Honestly, I'm tired of the political hate speak that exists in threads that are not in the Political forum area. I am beginning to see too many damn threads that are posted with a non-political agenda which are summarily hijacked by people wanting to spew their political perferences and/or overtones.

To be perfectly blunt, HL has a forum specifically for Political talk. If you want to talk about how crappy the libs are, go there and talk about it; just leave the other threads (like this one) alone.
