| I've got an IRC channel setup for an unofficial chat for us to hang out in. For those who aren't familiar with IRC, here's a simple guide to get online there. Everyone should feel free to come on in and say hi, but don't be surprised if everyone in it is idle. There's no harm in leaving your IRC client open but parked in your systray. So come on in and chat and/or idle! For everyone who is familiar with IRC, go ahead and connect to the SynIRC network (irc.synirc.org) and join #hardwarelogic ! I'm going to use Xchat for Windows in this guide. It's a cross platform client, and probably the most popular GUI client for linux. If you decide you don't like it, another popular alternative for windows is mIRC. Step 1 - Download and install XChat Step 2 - Once opened, you should see a window like the first screnshot shown below. In this dialog, you'll need to set your primary and fallback nicknames (you'll notice I just use ` for alternate nicknames). The other thing you'll need to do is add the SynIRC network and servers for it since it's not on the list (it's a fairly new network that split from another recently). ![]() To add the SynIRC network and the server for it, click "Add", you'll be shown another dialog shown here: ![]() Now in the new Dialog, make sure SynIRC is selected and click "Edit" and input "irc.synirc.org" (always without the quotes). Next, in the "Channels to join" box, input "#hardwarelogic" ... I also advise you to check "Auto connect to this network at startup" ... it should now look like this: ![]() Now you're ready to close the Edit dialog, and click Connect. This should take you right to the network and auto-join the #hardwarelogic channel. (Optional) Step 3: Now that you're connected, I also advise you register your nickname. First make sure you're using the nickname you want. If you're not, type "/nick <new-nick>" ... To register your nick with the Nickserv service, type "/msg nickserv register <password> <email>" Nickserv will then inform you that an email has been sent to your account and it will contain a code you need to need to confirm the email/nick. Follow the instructions from the email. Once your nick is registered, you can automatically identify to Nickserv when you connect by going back into the Edit dialog for the SynIRC network (XChat menu option -> Network List -> select SynIRC and Edit) and putting your password in either the Nickserv or Server password boxes, either will work. ![]() Join us on the unofficial HL IRC Channel! | It might be important to note that Xchat is only free for 30 days, then you have to pay for it. There are free IRC clients out there if you don't want to pay. | ||||||||||||||

| and xchat gave me some errors and shut down. This was after I was using it for a while tho, but everytime I tried to restart xchat after that it wouldnt start... But that could have been the crappy pc I was on. I will be trying a few different IRC programs on my good PC to see which one(s) I like best... | ||||||||||||||

I forgot that Xchat was a trial for Windows. Would you guys like to see the guide for a different client? I avoided mIRC because it's the same. ![]() Join us on the unofficial HL IRC Channel! | For those of you using FireFox, you can add Chatzilla to it as a plugin. It's primitive, but does the job. For those using linux, ah hell, you already know there is like a gazillion IRC clients for linux ;) AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo @2211.3 MHz MS-7125 Rev 1.0 nForce4 K8N-Neo4 Plat Phoenix 6.00 PG 05/22/2006 BIOS 2 x OCZ4001024PF 1 GB PC3200/400 3-3-3-8 2T nVidia XFX GF8800GT 512 DX9c Samsung SyncMaster 930B 1 x WD800JB / 2 x WD2000JD HP DVD640 OCZ 520ADJ SLI PSU | ||||||||||||||
