Hoopty Rig Project

I have an Idea for a project for the whole community. We are all geeks, (most of us anyways) so we all have lots of miscellaneous PC parts lying around. My idea is we all list all the parts we have lying around, then out of those lists of parts we come up with a plan for a PC build. We then send all of our parts selected for the build to one team member who will then assemble the Hoopty PC. Once the PC is complete, we can either have a drawing or a vote to determine who gets to keep the Hoopty. It’s just a rough idea for now; I thought I would throw it out there, to see if anyone is interested.

Nice!

I am totally down, although I don't have much to contribute from giving away or selling all my extra parts.
I've got:

Dell Keyboard
Microsoft Optical Mouse
Assorted cables (DVI, D-Sub, audio, etc...)
I'll scrounge around and see what else I can manage to dig up!

HAHAHAHAHA, that's an awesome idea. I would love to donate whatever I have (an AGP MX440 video card and Lite-On 52x CD burner) to the cause. But I think it will be tricky trying to figure out where the final rig goes....

Maybe we could donate it to a worthy cause?
Or sell it to pay for the server/site!

Yeah, like the Boys and Girls club or some other non-profit, community oriented organization. I like that idea :thumleft:

We can put our name on it and maybe get more kids involved in computers as a hobby and get them addicted to the sickness like us!!! :twisted:

Hey, anything to keep them off the streets, in gangs, or doing drugs!

Ooooh yeah! We could give them the parts, and whoever is responsible for it guides them through assembling it! Then they will have both a new computer AND new skills!

If everyone donates one thing, it shouldn't be too hard to put together some kind of a system.

I love the idea :) I don't think I have a whole lot of parts though. I'll look around, but I seriously doubt I have anything worth throwing in. Perhaps we could throw in some of the reviewed products. I've got a NB cooler that I may or may not need. I haven't started that review yet, so we'll see.

But as far as who puts it together, I nominate Rich. We can all trust him.

Or everyone buys some part (or we split the whole thing) then we overclock it mega hardcore and give it to charity.

They'll probably never realise the crazy computer they got in their hand, but that would be helluva funny.
I don't think I have anything worth at the moment however.
