Default George Carlin RIP

George Carlin mourned as a counterculture hero - Yahoo! News

Quote:
Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He was 71.
Very very sad but considering he enjoyed cigarettes, cigars and alcohol in excess compared to most, 71 is actually pretty good for him.
Sucks that he is gone. Time to buy up his original stuff before they start watering down and re-releasing politically correct versions of his work...

edit: also on foxnews, a bit better story about him I think

Man... Carlin was one of my favorites. I only wish I could have seen him perform. Very saddening. =(

Man, that sucks. I have all of Carlin's books, and they're practically the only ones that I've completely read multiple times that are on my bookshelf.

:(

We were just talking about him last night too. (his "pussification of America" bit)

Yea, Jim Gaffigan, Lewis Black, and Patton Oswalt are all excellent comedians, but they don't hold a candle to George Carlin.

He had heart trouble for quite a few years.Doing weed, and cocaine and cigs and cigars and booze....I'd say he lived a "normal" amount of time for the things he had done.I liked his comedy and had never seen him live.He visited my area quite frequently, but never had the time or $ to go.He will be missed. You know he was once a carnival organist...and he lost a radio job, because he took the radio station van to NY to buy weed

Carlin was a class act who really did things his way. Carlin was the guy who broke the ground for his class of humor, a ground breaking that when he used the seven deadly words in a single script earned a government investigation. He literally paved the way for the many comics who followed him.

Goodbye to the Hippy Dippy Weatherman. He was getting quite a bit more cynical the last few years but he always was somewhat that way. Great Comedian.

Then you need to listen to some of Redd Foxx's early works. Stuff from before George was an 'up an comer' comedian.

Good bye George, you'll be sorely missed. :bawling:
