Default Gamespot's Jeff Gertsmann fired.

Gamespot's Jeff Gerstmann was fired over his review of Kane and Lynch. He gave it a score of 6.0. The result was Eidos threatening to pull their ads from the site.

Rumor: Gamespot Editor Fired Over Kane & Lynch Review?

Just wondering what you guys thought about. All I'll say is that that speaks volumes about the integrity of their reviews.

This is getting to be more and more of an issue in our community. We've already touched on the IPOD issue, where a company was giving out IPODS with review material to sites at an event.....and thats a fairly common thing (We rarely go to sponsored events).

More of a concern is companies complaing about not getting preferential reviews, or an award, or griping about issues pointed out either regarding the company or product. I've personally had companies throw a hisdsy fit, and other companies threaten us, and even had companies vow to never work with us again......which is fine by me, there are plenty of sites out there that have sold out....but we never will...and I hope our reputation reflects that.

Tom's Hardware, Legit Reviews, and [H]ard being a few of those sites that have sold out. However, I digress. Rich is right on point. Vendors have refused to work with us because we will not compromise our integrity or our reputation for being fair and objective when it comes to our reviews. But in the end, it's the consumer reading our reviews that benefits from us staying our course.

I'm glad HL is still a legit site and hasn't caved in to the pressure of the vendors. It's like peer pressure in school all over again.

yes the article was re-edited, and the advertisement on the site that was pointing to the review has been changed to link to the game homepage.

As to pointing out sites, its not my place to judge another site or its writers, they have a right to express their opinion as much as we do. I've also said on several occasions that I'd rather have a blog than a review site if it meant compromising our integrity. I'll also say that on several occasions I've pointed out there are actually few BAD products.....most often its stuff thats mis-marketed, as in the wrong target audience.

What I see happening is a slow kill off of review sites, like HL, who won't play the game, and only mouth pieces that have a large readership, regardless of values, being supported

Bah my good Rich, in the end truth will prevail as long as there's honest guys on this planet. ;D

Aw cmon, don't be a whiner :P
If it takes boycotting to get things back in working order that's what will happen. Hopefully things don't fall as low as the US dollar though... *whistles*
