Default Game Piracy (Rant Warning)

So I have been looking for a group that holds LAN parties on a regular basis. Found a group up in Oklahoma City that looks like they might fit the bill. So after registering I saw a post that one of the guys doesn't own COD4 and doesn't plan to buy it. So I posted that you can play COD 4 on a LAN with the same CD Key. Well one of the fucktard Mods edits my posts claiming it was promoting piracy.

I am a firm believer in buying the games I play, I have on occasion downloaded a hacked game to try it out. If I liked it I bought it, if not I uninstalled it and went on with my life. Now having been to many LAN Parties both big and small I know how impossible it is to find a game that everyone one owns. So it's great to find a game like COD4 that doesn't require a unique CD Key to play on a LAN. It also promotes the game and lets people try it out, and if they like it they buy it.

So anyways pissed off that this idiot MOD edited my post claiming it promoted Piracy pissed me off. So I went to Activision's website and asked them if this was ok. What do you know it was in the FAQs and within seconds of asking my question I was directed to the answer in the FAQs. So I went back to the OKGG forums and re edited my post.

okgg.org -- View topic - March LAN 2008

So if you're going to be anti piracy at least do your fucking research and know the companies policy on their own products.

My friends and I do this all the time for our LAN parties and have never considered it "Piracy" because we're only able to play the games together, on that day, without access to the single player, or internet. It's more or less a demo or trial for who ever doesn't have the game, and most of the time they go out and buy it after that. In fact, I own copies of Battle for Middle Earth 2, Battlefield Vietnam, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Rainbow Six Vegas because after trying them out at LAN parties, I enjoyed them so much that I had to buy a copy for myself so I could play them at home.

EXACTLY!!!! Same here, I have bought several games that I played at LANs because I really enjoyed them. Some game companies know that, so thats why they make them that way.

I understand they don't want to promote piracy, thats bad for business. But damn use some common fucking sense. It's pretty cut and dry.

Piracy - handing out a copied disc to everyone at the party with a keygen or hacked CD Key so they can play the game, then letting them keep it.

Not Piracy - Letting everyone install the game off a legit disc, using the same legit CD Key, then uninstalling the game when the party is over.
