Default Ford employee wont buy a Ford

News Story - Associated Press

Quote:
David Sneath has worked at a Ford Motor Co. parts warehouse for 34 years, but it didn't take him any time at all to walk out once he discovered he'd won a $136 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Sneath plans to take a one-time lump payment worth $84.3 million, or $59.6 million after taxes. On Thursday, he got the first $1 million; he'll get the remainder in a second payment. At the warehouse, he made $60,000 to $70,000 a year.
Despite his longtime association with Ford, he said he won't be using any of the money to buy one of his former employer's vehicles.
"I worked for Ford Motor Company," he said. "I won't be buying a Ford product."
Thats what I hate about these "jackpots"... he won it, he should get $136 million. That should be after taxes and regardless if it was in one lump sum or payed out over 20 years.
Nooooo these stupid lotto companies state that $136 million is only payed out if the person chooses the 20 year payout. Otherwise the lump sum is $84.3, and then after the damn government gets their hands on a chunk, he gets $59.6 million. Thats about 35% tax payment... would you be happy if the government took 35% of your taxes every year? Remember, whatever he buys with the money is then charged tax AGAIN so in reality it is closer to 50% of the money he won is taxed.

Sorry just kidding around, I would be happy with $100, much less $60 mil... thats after tax? eh I can manage...
Myself, I would take the yearly payments and make up a will so that neither daughter can touch any of the money until their 20th birthday... of course since I will likely die before my wife, she will probably have it spent before the girls come of age anyways

That already happens. I pay out like 27% and my parents pay out like 33%
What a jip.

And clearly he must not have worked at the Super Duty Plant!

I figured it up and for my 07 taxes including much of the retail stuff bought, I am only paying around 18%. I don't own a business, I don't make over $35K per year so I am pretty safe for now.

Hell, I'd be happy making the 60,000 to 70,000 a year the guy was making!

40 Million after taxes? Overkill. If you don't lose your head, you could live well and never work again with 10 or 11 million I think.

Hooray for him, but my wife and I are scratching and clawing our way to make 60,000 together. I could use a break!

Tempo and Taurus were 2 of the best cars ever built in these united states......very long lasting, excellent fuel economy.I know a ton of people still driving them and with no complaints.Would I ever own one...no.I think they are homely. They are ranked up there with the Ford Escort for economy and longevity.
