I can see the smoke from my house, which is about 12-15 miles from the Strip.....I think it looks a lot worse than it actually is. They are saying that its just the external facade (Dave just got really excited) thats burning.

I am watching on the News now, it's pretty bad. It looks like the top 10 floors are either on fire, or in danger of being on fire.

from the live video, it looks like the top 5 stories and the roof equipment... also looks like a fireman is hanging out of a window spraying water on it... to the right side, about 3-4 windows away from the fire

also looking from the foxnews posted picture, it has spread quite a bit and took part of the Monte Carlo sign..

eh, it aint that bad...a lot of external smoke damage on the top 2-3 floors and the roof, but they said the internal damage is minimal because of the sprinkler systems.

I'd get some video but its really cloudy here and its hard to make anything out.

EDIT:
The news has blown it completely out of proportion. There are some rooms that burned, a lot with smoke damage.....but its mostly external. It was started by a couple guys doing some welding work.

Earlier, the news was talking about people having seen a helicopter flying around, and said it might have crashed or been terror....but they didn't want to spread rumors. I can't even begin to imagine what its gonna cost the Strip....after a horrendous CES, and with Miss America in town this week, they have evacuated 3 casinos, and the Monte Carlo is undoubtedly going to be shut down for awhile because of smoke damage.

yeah I saw the firemen hanging out the windows spraying water on it so it appears that it was all external even from the live video feed
