The family of a Marine killed in Iraq has sued a Baptist church for picketing their son's funeral and is turning to the Internet to drum up support.
Albert Snyder, the father of fallen Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, took the stand this week in the Baltimore trial against the Westboro Baptist Church and testified that protesters waving signs at Matthew's burial made him nauseous. He'd wanted a private service for his son.
"They turned this funeral into a media circus and they wanted to hurt my family," Snyder said on the stand Wednesday. "They wanted their message heard and they didn't care who they stepped over. My son should have been buried with dignity, not with a bunch of clowns outside."
The Snyder family's suit against the church — whose members have picketed the funerals of military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, claiming the deaths are punishment for the country's tolerance of homosexuality — could cost close to $100,000, the law firm representing them said. That's why Albert Snyder is asking for the community's help on the Web site Lance Cpl. Matthew A. Snyder.

About a year ago, a motorcycle group and some veterans started showing up at every funeral these kooks attended, standing in front of them to block their access to the funerals.

It's just sick when idiots like this makes all churches and believers to look like idiots. They say that the country is being punished for supporting homosexuality and other stuff. They take one thing they believe in and take it to the extreme. And then they end up disturbing intimate ceremonies, where the person being buried is probably also a believer. But they don't care because logic is way off base: "the person was in the military, therefore they must be supportive of everything the government does, and therefore must be supportive of everything that is allowed within the country." Complete stupidity and ignorance.

Do most churches disagree with homosexuality, prostitution, pre-marital sex and much more? Yes. But ultimately most of those same churches say they believe in everything Jesus stood for. The main thing that Jesus did was show love and compassion for ALL. Heck, he befriended theives and prostitutes. I'm not here to preach, but to me, nobody is to be put on a pedestal. Everyone sins and nobody is perfect, period. If people ask me what I think, then I will tell them. But disrespecting anyone to try to make a point or force your beliefs on others, is just plain idiotic.

Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is a controversial church, considered by many to be a hate group, headed by Pastor Fred Phelps, and based in Topeka, Kansas, U.S.. It runs the websites GodHatesFags.com,[1] GodHatesAmerica.com and others expressing condemnation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people (LGBT), Roman Catholics, Muslims and Jews, as well as populations it considers to support the forementioned groups, including Swedes, Canadians, Irish and Americans.

Actually controversial also understates these bastards. I despise them and all they seem to stand for. Ironic is that only here in the US could they get away with their act. Some of the crap on their webs is really out there.

What really pisses me off is how they love to quote and interpret biblical scripture twisting it to promote their sorry assed adgenda.

when i was on funeral detail down at bragg before i left, we had a shitload of police blocking access to this KIA funeral i did. thankfully those nuts didnt show up because i probably would have gotten in trouble...
