Quote:
Mississippi legislators this week introduced a bill that would make it illegal for state-licensed restaurants to serve obese patrons.
What a bunch of fat bastards to try to pass this....

So ... what ? What is the "fat" water mark ... A "front butt" ?

Too wide to fit in the toilet stall ?

C'mon ... legislate something worth your pay.

whats considered fat? I mean, the legislature would just be kicking themselves out of restaurants in their own state.

I can see the signs... "Must be this thin to eat here"

But I bet there are people that would relish in the thought of actually saying "Sorry sir, I can't serve you cause... you're fat."

Well, the introducers of the bill are all republicans.

First they tap your phone - then they tap your scale :)

Now, now, now people.

If I enter a tavern (bar) and I appear to be intoxicated by law (in just about any state) they are obliged not to serve me. Matter of fact serving me would be a violation of the law.

Note: Such laws do not specify if I drive to a bar or if they see me drive in and park in the parking lot. The laws simply state if I appear to be intoxicated they may not serve me.

This is for my own good, and likely the good of the free world as we know it.

The law being (actually it's a bill) introduced in Mississippi is for the good and well being of the people. Think of it on a state government level as the government "helping" and looking out for the well being of the people. We should all be well aware the government needs to "help" us as often we are not capable of helping ourselves.

Recently Ohio (gawd I hate this place) passed legislation with a vote to ban smoking in all public places. This includes taverns, bars and whatever. This legislation was introduced and pushed by dare I say Democrats. Their concern was second hand smoke affecting non smoking patrons. Then too those same patrons had the right not to be there as much as the right to be there. They even posted thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of signs with a toll free number to report (rat out) places that fail to follow the rules or the law as the case may be.

Now, we all know the damage caused by smoking and excess drinking so it would only be logical to assume some people also need government intervention with their eating habits. This discounts a personal constitutional right to be obese! However, here nor there.

I don't really see this bill flying very far, simply because it seems to discriminate in nature. However, I do see it as humorous.

Oh well Sunday morning at 10:10 AM and time for a beer and I think I will have a smoke too. Then I figure something to eat is in order. I like doing all these things while I can in my own home because tomorrow I may lose those rights.

Ron

agreed, they tried to pass the no smoking thing here in FL but so many people fought it before it passed that they finally revised the law so that if a certain percentage of the sales in the establishment are alcohol then they are allowed to have smoking wherever the owner designates. Some places stopped selling food altogether just to keep their customers. One place that fought it and continues to allow smoking is one local bingo hall. 90% of their customers are smokers so I guess they tried fighting for an exception stating if a large percentage of the business' sales is not food or "tangible" items then they should have the right to ok smoking in their own business. I guess they are still fighting it several years later but they continue to allow smokers and they keep getting fined but they refuse to pay it based on the continuing fight with the state. I have also seen some places that sell food add an outdoor table area that does allow smoking which the state does allow.
I am a smoker and I do understand certain business types should not have smoking indoors but to continuously remove our rights in ourdoor and other public places is going to far. Some states even passed laws saying you cannot smoke in public, indoors or out if you are within so many feet of a business doorway or along a public meeting place where it may affect other people which can be extended to parks, walkways, sidewalks, festivals, parties, carnivals and so on...

FL smoking laws

Touche

Hmmm......I did miss that. Modern Mississippi has a democrat. Imagine that. Maybe the south will rise again.

*note: those are jokes obviously - I don't need a history lesson on southern dems. :)
