| My internet went down for awhile yesterday and then again most of today. I called and their going to send a tech out Thursday but since it's back up again I'll call them Thursday morning and cancel if it doesn't go down again. I can't believe how long the day is without the internet hooked up. I need to get a life away from this damn computer for awhile. ![]() |

| Colonel Calamity | usually it is a faulty splitter for cable lines or line noise (on their side) for DSL ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| This has been running on the splitter I'm using for the last 3 years. Do they go bad just like that? |

| I'm Diggin it! | I had a splitter that was outside the house. Every time it rained, my internet would go in and out. After I dried all the connections out, replaced the splitter and then sealed up the connections with clear silicon, never had another problem till the tornado ripped all my cable through the roof. Yea I bet that tornado did a number on the cable. My splitter is in the basement so I'll change it out if the net goes down again. | |

| Colonel Calamity | Also another issue can be multiple splitters... when i moved in here there are 2-3 cable TV ports in most of the rooms and they were all hooked up so I had something like 5x 4-way splitters and at the end of the line in my bedroom, regular cable TV looked like bunny ears pulling in a TV station from Norway. I replaced all the old cable and disconnected unneeded ports. Then ran brand new cable and also got high speed cable here at the same time. When I did that I took the input line into a 2way 2.4GHz splitter, one to the cable modem and the other to a new 4 way 900MHz splitter which fed all the needed ports in the house using new RG-6U. About 2 years ago that 2.4GHz went out which caused the cable modem to go in and out for a few days but didn't affect cable TV at all. Had a guy dispatched twice in 3 days but when he arrived both times, everything was working perfectly and he couldn't find anything wrong. As soon as I replaced that splitter, it was fixed immediately. Also had a modem go bad on me after 5 years which went in and out for a week before completely dying. I thought it was the splitter again so I replaced it first with a new one. That wasn't it, it was the modem itself. Luckily the cable company said it was a discontinued model and I could get a brand new DOCSIS2.0 cable modem through them for $20 so I went for it. That confused me, I bought it from them originally for $50 (so I owned it) but they still gave me the discounted price on a brand new current model which I also bought.. oh well who knows... my speed on the internet speed test thread say it all ![]() ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | And while on the discussion of splitters, I had a Charter tech install one backwards before. Took them a few service calls to figure out the initial installer's goof up, but they eventually caught it. That's not going to be your problem Joker (you would have known long before 3 years have passed), but this thread brought back just one of many Charter technician stories... |
