Default Cyberhell, USA

Hey everyone. I moved a month ago and haven't been able to hang around here since then. Took a two year assignment about as far north in Michigan as you can go and thus far I have no internet access. Manage to get on line at a neighbor's to check my email, but that's about it.

I'm in a small efficiency apartment which includes utilities. Since it's not a separate street address and doesn't have it's own utilities and because there already is a cable connection going to another part of the structure, Charter Communications - the only broadband provider in the area - will not run a second line.

I even offered to sign a two year contract and pre-pay but they simply reply that this is their policy and nothing can be done. Did you ever hear of such a stupid thing in your life.

I'm about ready to break down and pay for a DSL connection despite the poor speed. This stinks!!!

Carl

Hey Carl, good to see you......you might look into a wireless solution and paying a neighbor for access.

one idea is to ask the other person to get a second IP address, you pay for the switch and have yourself your own IP on the same connection??

good to see you around Carl

Thanks HL and Corsair!

You must be near the Houghton/Hancock area! My brother went to school at Michigan Tech up there on the Keewanaw penninsula (which is about as far north as you can go in Michigan). I get my cable internet through Charter Communications because they are the only game in town where I live too. You could always try going to the post office and see if they will assign you an apartment address (like 107 Pine St. Apt. B). Do you have your own mailbox?
